I had some high expectations dining out at Red Cow as family with my wife and 18 month old daughter for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic. I was really hoping this experienced would have been super enjoyable but I was really let down. Red Cow came highly recommended from the Jason and Alexis show on MyTalk 107.1 and I hear about the fantastic food all the time on my way to work. I was deeply disappointed. We dined at around 5:00pm on a Saturday as we hoped it may be less busy at this time and it truly was less busy. The hostess staff was friendly and quickly seated us. We waited at least 5 minutes before a server even came over to greet us and take our drink order. Once we did we ordered our appetizer and food. The server was friendly towards our 18 month old which I was happy to see. This was probably the best part of dinner. I ordered a 60/40 burger medium rare, my wife ordered Nashville hot chicken strips off their appetizer menu and we also ordered chips and onion dip. We ordered our daughter mac and cheese. We didn’t wait too long and our food came out. Ordering the chips and onion dip, I would have expected that to come out earlier then the rest of the food. Nope it didn’t, it came out and then right after our normal course food arrived. I didn’t get time to enjoy the appetizer and ruined the experience in my opinion. I got my burger and it was well done and certainly not medium rare. I only ate half and took the rest home and threw it out because a well done burger does not taste well. My wife’s food was good she said. My daughter didn’t like the food but I wasn’t surprised as an 18 month old doesn’t usually like unfamiliar mac and cheese. Their mac and cheese is not like Kraft mac and cheese fyi so be prepared if you have picky kids. My drink became empty and never got a refill and had to ask our server which it seemed my request for a refill was more bothersome to her. I received my refill after she dropped our check off. Now, I totally get the service industry is a hard industry but please don’t rush make people feel rushed to finish eating by dropping our check off and finally getting me a refill of my empty drink. I still tipped well since I know everyone in the service industry is trying to make a living but I certainly was not thrilled on how we were treated and my burger not cooked properly. I hope management takes this review to heart and ensures that making good impressions on guests will make them come back. Red Cow spends a lot of advertising money for ads on the radio and it worked for me but I am very hesitant to give Red Cow another try because of...
Read moreWe've tried quite a few new places in the last few years. And friends have been telling us we have to try red cow! We drive by it at least two or three times a month. Today we finally stopped. It was in between the lunch and dinner hour so not very crowded and we were Seated on the patio that faces 50th Street right away by the bartender. He took our drink order immediately and said he'd send or server out in minutes with our beverages and to take our order if we were ready. It is many places as we've been the staff here far exceeded our expectations. Our waiter Kyle, was somewhat busy as the patio did have a few patrons out there. But he saw to her needs promptly and stayed with us to make sure we knew what the items on the menu were and what were popular items. Food choices here are along the lines of bar Fair but a little fancier. What comes off as a trendy upscale place is a very comfortable and casual place. He recommended there patty melt for me, and don't think your regular Denny's patty melt either. It had a couple of different cheeses and the onions were out of the French onion soup category of onions for flavor. And the toasted bread was the tastiest Rye I've ever had thick cut and delicious. My wife had the root beer pulled pork, which comes on a tasty bun with a pile of coleslaw on top. Very delicious! Everything here is homemade. We ordered cheese curds which came with a Triple Berry ketchup. The cheese curds were far above your normal State Fair cheese curd. And the Triple Berry ketchup, let's just say if I could have a half a dozen bottles of it I would. Even their regular ketchup is homemade and far above anything I've had at those type of places. If you're looking for a place to go that's a moderate price and feels somewhat upscale but is very homey red cow does the place you...
Read moreWe've been wanting to check this place out for a while and let me tell you, it was well worth the hype. I didn't expect a wait at 8:30pm!
We got the poutine, cheese curds, beet salad and the double barrel burger with sides of truffle fries and sweet potato crinkle planks with garlic aioli.
Poutine: the fries were fresh and loaded with beer cheese and braised beef. It was hands-down delicious!!
Cheese curds: they do cheese curds RIGHT. The batter was my all time favorite- light, airy and crispy. Dare I say, these are even BETTER than the state fair!! I didn't care too much about the triple berry ketchup sauce, but dem curds....
Beet quinoa salad: this was delightful. The vinaigrette complements the salad really well. Loved the blend of arugula, lima beans, orange and red beets and quinoa. Only critique here is that I would have loved to see more red beets.
The burger: I'm not a fan of horseradish personally, so I subbed it for garlic aioli and it didn't disappoint. The blend of rib eye, short rib and brisketwas juicy, tender and perfectly cooked. It's a pretty rich burger, wow! I couldn't breathe after that.
But like my brother and I have always joked about, there's a separate compartment in there for dessert!
Brownie: homemade deliciousness. I didn't know how I'd feel about white and dark chocolate chips melted in and hot caramel, but it was a delight. I would have gone lighter on the caramel, added a drizzle of homemade chocolate syrup and a maraschino cherry to top it off.
And last but certainly not least, Rob is an amazing server! He was friendly, passionate for food and the way he explained menu favorites left us salivating and ordering more.
We are definitely going back!
Final thought: kudos to the playlist,...
