Fred's Steakhouse — Local services in Elk City

I was leaving Burns Flat so I called Fred's to put in my order as I knew it would be ready for pick up by the time I got to Elk City. No answer, called again, no answer. It would only ring & ring, every time I called. I checked the # on Google again to make sure it was right. Driving back to Elk City, kept calling, NO ANSWER.....I called MANY times. So I went to Fred's to place my order (in person once in town) since I was unable to place it over the phone. I went inside & placed my "to go order" (explained I couldnt get through on the phone when I tried so many times) so she is writing down my order (very unfamiliar with the menu) I ordered the same thing I usually order so I know the Q's they ask. She never asked HOW I wanted our shrimp nor did she ask what sides we wanted (I had no clue what she planned on writing down without asking) I was waiting. I literally had to finally ask her.....are you not gonna ask how we want our shrimp & what sides we want??? Then she asked, I told her. SMH BEFORE SHE COMPLETED WRITING DOWN OUR ORDER.....I TOLD HER "YOU KNOW WHAT, SINCE WE ARE ALREADY HERE, WE WILL JUST GO AHEAD & EAT IN, LET ME GO TELL MY SON & HE CAN COME INSIDE" SHE SAID "OK" So I went outside, told my son, he got out, we came in. They seated us. They had served us our drinks. 10-15 min later (ASSUMING OUR MEALS WERE ALREADY BEING PREPARED) the waitress came to our table & asked WHAT we ordered. I was puzzled! WHAT?????? I told her I have already given her (girl up front) my order! She wrote it down etc (I wish Id got her name) I was beyond aggravated at this point) & the waitress went on to tell me she couldnt find my ticket, she dont know what happened to it, she might of accidently thrown it away etc etc. REALLY? We been sitting here all this time & NOW yall dont even have my order or much less started? I GOT UP, I LEFT OUR DRINKS, & I WALKED OUT & WENT TO RIB CRIB!!!!! It was bad enough they couldnt answer the phone to take my call out order & inconvenience us in that way, so then we decided to eat in (which wasnt our plan in the 1st place) & THEN YALL DONT HAVE MY ORDER I DID FINALLY PLACE? Ive been sitting here this whole time......I have NO intentions on going back here. Sorry but not sorry. Horrible experience!!! Yall GOTTA...

I decided to give this restaurant a try. I had been to Fred's in Altus a few times, and honestly I was rarely impressed. However, selection isn't the best in Elk City, so I decided to try it.

Don't expect the same menu as the one in Altus. I made that mistake. If you are into steaks and burgers, you won't have to scour the menu. I decided on fried shrimp with mashed potatoes and a side salad. Immediately, I was greeted with rolls at the table. Honestly, if I had only these rolls for the rest of my life, I would be happy. The rolls are yeast rolls, not too sweet, and served with sweet butter. Ever tried Texas Roadhouse? Essentially the same type of rolls, and so amazingly great.

My shrimp came out hot and perfect. Some people aren't into cornmeal batter for shrimp; I myself love it. The cocktail sauce is great and obviously made in house. Mashed potatoes are served with white gravy and are mashed potatoes haha. I was pretty impressed with the shrimp. They are huge!

My favorite part? The salad. Granted, it's just an iceberg salad. BUT: the croutons are the best I've ever had. That's saying a lot, as I used to make my own with beer bread. They use the sweet yeast rolls for the croutons, so they add a very pleasant flavor to the salad. Also, they aren't hard as a rock, just flaky sweet goodness that make you want more.

I sat in the bar. The manager over there, Tyler, is absolutely great. Super attentive without hovering, eager to make sure you have a pleasant experience, and funny. He definitely went above and beyond for me...and even sent me home with yeast rolls and butter. Yay!

One thing I must add: there is a serious lack of precautions for the current pandemic. I walked in with a mask on and received funny looks from most of the customers. However, the staff keeps their distance, and there are partitions between the booths. As with everything these days, there are definitely risks associated...

My hubby & I are in town for work and I found this place FRED's online one night and it ended up being the best food that we have had in a very long time. We travel all year long so we do get to check out a lot of different restaurants in states all over the USA but I want to say that FRED's is hands down the best place Ive eaten out in years!!!! We was getting tired of being let down from so many restaurants and wasting our money when we could of just cooked in our RV and it come out way better... but FREDS has saved us time and money both. Prices are amazing and food is so delicious. I really can't t say it enough times! Also, Skylee who works up front as a Hostess is such an amazing person. Her and I hit it off immediately becuz of her super awesome personality! She is definitely a people person and a great worker. She makes sure that I have everything that I ordered before I leave (becuz we always call in our order as TO-GO orders) she is just so amazing!!! If I had a company I would want ALL OF MY EMPLOYEES to learn from her of how to make customers feel special, she is always on top of her job, she is just the perfect HOSTESS. Ashe always spends the perfect amount of time making each customer happy. She is just a very pleasant person all together! She is also very mature for her age. I was a bit surprised at her age, I would of never thought she was as young as she is but that just tells me she has her head on right and is definitely headed in the correct direction in life. Skylee keep up the great job at being you!!! You truly are amazing! So glad I was able to meet you. When we leave to another location I want you to know I will never forget you and your wonderful service. You are what keeps me coming back almost every night! Your like the daughter Ive always...
