I stopped into Ellsworth jewelers to sell a brand new 14k white gold band. I weighed it myself and got 4.2 grams stamped with the original plastic tag attached. The value of the piece in scrap subtracting half a karat so 13.5 karats 4.2 grams calculates to $195.61 at the time of this review. The woman who helped me told me the website for buying gold was down today and if I did come back to sell it at scrap she estimated it would be worth $25!!! And then told me to go to a pawn shop. It gets better. I am learning to be a jeweler and a watch maker. I put together some custom seiko mod watches WITH NO LOGOS, completely sterile dials and had photos of them. That said, I applied to Ellsworth jewelers a few days before stopping buy and to follow up on my application I sent them this “ You • 11:54 am Following up for the status of my application, attached are some photos of pieces I’ve built, serviced and timegraphed. 2 of which have recently sold. I also sent the photos(attached) of the watches I built and timegraphed ( adjusted the movement with a timegrapher machine) until it’s keeping time at less than + or - 2seconds/day. My results were at 0sec/day with the pieces I built and I wanted to show off. I got this message from them after I left today “Spencer, Good afternoon, and thank you for reaching out. While I appreciate your enthusiasm, we are looking for someone with formal retail jewelry experience. Although I would never assume from a picture, my guess is those watches are not genuine. Please be careful about sharing/posting anything that is not genuine.”… Today I went to pyramid studios and had a very great experience and did very good business with master jeweler/goldsmith Mr. David and his wife Denise. The work was beautiful but the rings I had built several years back I was told by one of the owners I would have free sizing for life. I even recall him telling me that he would not recommend doing it often as it would put strain on the setting. I had then sized smaller companies have after having them built. When I went in to have them sized up in August I was told it would be $650. When I was asked about the free sizing for life, she went and spoke to the new male jeweler and came back and told me it meant free sizing once anytime during the life of the rings. I spoke to the owner and she didn’t deny the free sizing for life but didn’t offer to honor it either. The original work was incredible and I have referred more people than I can count but the business practices are not so pretty and I will never go back for anything and will never recommend again. In fact, I have told several people what happened in the 4 months it took for me to pay the ring off. Note I also never told them to go ahead with the work and never did a deposit as their policy states would need to be done...

I was extremely pleased with what Ellsworth Jewelers did with my rings! I brought my wedding band and engagement ring to them because they were 48 years old and wearing thin. The prongs on the diamond were worn and both bands were thinning which could have resulted in a loss of both. Jennie helped me select a new setting for the diamond and I asked them to place the birthstones of my two children on either side of the diamond. Then I asked if there was any way to save the old bands which had great sentimental value to me. Here’s what blew me away - the jeweler placed the new setting with diamond and birthstones between my two original bands (cut off the old diamond pedestal) and smoothed it over, shined them like new and fastened all 3 bands together!
