Food Lion — Local services in Emporia

I drive 20 miles out of my way to avoid the Emporia Food Lion. Shelves are constantly in need of restocking and I cant find items that should be there. Lines are always long with too few registers open and it just seems cluttered and disorganized and not as clean as most Food Lions. One night as I was checking out, a manager came out of the office and began berating the teenage boy checking me out because someone had just walked out without paying for some steaks. I don't understand how a teenage boy is supposed to have eyes in the back of his head and also doubt "security staff" is in his job description as a cashier. Lastly and what irks me the most is I'm a big fan of their in store made Tortilla Chips and this store clearly doesn't know how to fry them. They are soaked in grease and don't crunch right, like they're stale. Which if you know how to deep fry anything, you know that means the oil is too cold and instead of instantly frying them, the tortillas are instead soaking up the oil when they are dropped in the fryer. Such an easy fix and after 4 bags purchased at different times all having the same issue, its clear either their fryer temp is faulty or they are just too lazy or impatient to wait for it to heat up. Avoid this Food Lion if at all possible, it will be worth going out of your way. Also very impatiently waiting for instacart to be available here. We just moved here a few months ago from NC and I used instacart at Food Lion all the time, it's so easy and convenient and I was extremely disappointed that it is not...

Amazing staff, new construction is making the store look amazing which now matches their staff, even with the construction taking place there is no discernible difference in the efficiency and service the staff provides and\or in the organizational cleanliness of the store in whole. But as I stated at the start of this review this Food Lion runs like a well oiled machine, each visit brings with it something fresh and new thanks to the ongoing remodeling projects, and when something as mundane and repetitive as food shopping can be enjoyable in small part due to the store itself; but fully facilitated by their warm and genuinely kind staff. I have to say that Food Lion knocked this one out of the park. Came to the Food Lion at 930 pm today had a full shopping cart after shopping for an hour then was looking for a cashier manager said it's self checkout only it took me 20 minutes to ring up my groceries after shopping for an hour. What a JOKE! Usually I pay by check thank God I had my card on me warning to ppl like me I have a double fusion in my neck noone helped me AI will be taking all cashier jobs... Do not shop at food lion warning.........it sucks!
