Baker and Olive — Local services in Encinitas

In town visiting my mother in law and she told me about how amazing this place was...! So we stopped in around 5:30 (they close at 6:00 on Wednesday’s apparently) it was my Mother in Law, my 10 year old son and myself. As soon as I walked in I noticed a lady that obviously worked there but she had an extremely annoyed look on her face. (Maybe because they were closing soon?? Maybe because my son was with me??? I have no idea.) Anyways I smiled at her and she just looked at me and proceeded to walk off. I said to my Mother in Law, well the staff here doesn’t seem very friendly, I personally wouldn’t purchase anything in here. She proceeded to tell me she had never seen that woman in the store before but yes she was very standoffish and aggitated we were there. My mother in law purchased $150 dollars worth of products from Gail (who was amazing by the way!) And we left. But I still couldn’t get over how we were treated by the other woman. I got in the car and said you know what I’m going to say something and everyone agreed something should be said. So I walked back into the store, told the aggitated woman that I didn’t purchase anything from her because personally I didn’t think she handled herself in a professional manner. I explained that she was standoffish, didn’t say hello or smile and looked at us like we didn’t belong in her store. She replied with, “sorry you feel that way.” In a, “I don’t really care what you think kinda way.” Honestly, that was the first and last time I will stop in...

While the products, Oil and Vinegar, are delicious, organic and vegan, I wish the packaging would reflect more environmental consciousness. The shipping I received was a box of 4 small bottles snug fit in foam, which could be done with cardboard, plus the perfectly fine shipping box was then placed in a larger box and filled with styrofoam pieces which are not bio-degradable or recyclable. While the first box could be packaged differently and is ship-able, the second box is completely superfluous along with the styrofoam pieces. Please consider this feeback going forward for shipping choices....

This is the place for your balsamic vinegar and olive oil. They also make bread here but I've never been a fan of the bread. I think it's too dry and has little taste. The olive oils are amazing and balsamic' that are aged. Truly aged and syrupy. You can taste any of them before buying. I always always have a liter of the standard Mediterranean blend olive oil and classic balsamic although I also have the peach balsamic vinegar for when I want to change up my vinegarettes for my salad.
