This place provides excellent care for pets. The staff is pleasant, knowledgeable, and caring, especially those in boarding. However, this place is expensive! There is a charge for every little thing. Our dog recently was treated for a fractured nail (removal) and we were even charged twice for bandaging ($27). And we still had to re-bandage as soon as we got home. This vet practice is not doc owned. It is privately owned as a business and the docs are hired to oversee the practice. I liken it to a "for profit" hospital. So the bottom line is not compassionate care for the animals. It is to turn a profit for the business. However, for all intents and purposes, this is the only game in town (on the mountain), so unless your willing to drive a considerable distance, you don't have much of an option.
This is a follow-up written in mid September. We continue to be frustrated with the increasing expense of doing business at AHSM. We recently boarded our 2 dogs for a couple of days only to be met with a $200 that included a rate increase for boarding, one office visit charge for checking out our older dog and a second office visit charge for a glance at our younger dogs ears (something we were offered when her ears were treated earlier). There is never a discussion of fees in advance and no notice is ever given to current customers when rates are increased. There is no posted fee schedule online or in a visible place in the practice. I have contacted the practice manager twice in the past week and still have not received a return call. As I said earlier, this non-vet owned business is always looking to increase revenue. That is the bottom line.
Updated April '23 - The mixed bag of experiences continues. After a weekend visit to one of Chattanooga's "Emergency 24 Hour Vets" where we encountered exorbitant charges and a rush to the worst case scenario (see my other reviews), we were met with great care, conservative treatment, and consistent communication. The docs continue to prove themselves as very capable. It was determined that our dog is in early stages of kidney disease and would need to be put on a prescription diet. Now that it is time to begin regular purchase of this special food, AHSM will not approve that purchase directly with an online source, a practice that is very common with vet clinics. They, instead, require that I come to the practice to pick up a written prescription and then go through the process of submitting that written document. This is clearly the policy so that online purchases become very inconvenient, hoping it becomes easier just to purchase the food directly from...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI couldn't possibly say enough nice things about Dr. Kincannon and the rest of the staff.
I'd moved down here with two of my rabbits, and was a little concerned because they'd always gone to an exotics specific clinic, which there didn't seem to be around here. So, I was a little weary of taking them to a small animal clinic; but Dr. Kincannon has been great! And, frankly, I think she does a more thorough exam than the exotic vet did. It's also nice to be a little more involved, getting to see their exam and even their teeth while the doctor has the little tool in their mouth to be able to see them.
I added a third rabbit to the mix after moving down here, and she did her spay and everything, which went well.
Earlier this year all three of them got blood work done because two of them needed dental care. One needed his incisors trimmed down, and another needed her molar clipped down. The rabbit that got her molar clipped even got dental x-rays! Which, I know sounds like a lot, but rabbit dental health is so important so they can keep eating correctly and comfortably; and to ensure those difficult to see teeth aren't growing wildly into places they shouldn't and causing other problems. They even had to order special products to do the rabbit dental, which I'm really glad they were willing to do!
The one rabbit who didn't need dental work, but had blood work done, just for good measure, had a liver elevation, which she suspected was from the blood draw its self-- and, thankfully checked out normal on later blood work; but Dr. Kincannon is keen to keep an eye on in the future, just in case.
Which, is all just to say: If you have rabbits and are also concerned about a small animal clinic vs just an exotics clinic-- they'll definitely be in good hands with Dr. Kincannon. She's very thorough, wants you to be involved, and transparent about everything as she talks to you.
Sprout, Smudge and Spec probably have different opinions about their trips to the vet, but it's a great relief and comfort knowing they have such a wonderful staff taking...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreInitially our experience was wonderful with Dr. Kincannon. This month when our dogās monthly prescriptions were called in, Nicole, a pharmacy tech, sent a text to me stating that the medication Dr. Kincannon had put my dog on for the last 7 months was not for long term use, despite the fact that the chart said Dr. Kincannon approved it for long term use. When the prescription was filled on 6/3/25, the instructions said that the quantity would be limited because my dog takes Lasix. My dog has never taken Lasix. I texted Nicole to ask for clarification and to speak with Dr. Kincannon and was not given a response. Several messages were left on the voicemail with no response. Today, I took the dog in for grooming. He was given anxiety medication as requested 1 hour before taking him to the clinic. He was so anxious that they were unable to fully bathe him or cut his nails. When I went to pick him up, I was taken back to the grooming room to get him out of the kennel as no staff member wanted to do so. I was told at that point that Dr. Kincannon was out until August, a fact not ever mentioned in any other conversation with any employee of the clinic. I was then called by Kelley (who rudely refused to provide her last name) who stated that they canāt control what the pharmacy put on the label. A pharmacy does not randomly put dosing instructions on prescriptions. I reiterated numerous times that my dog has never been on Lasix and reminded her of the issues with grooming today. She told me I would have to pay for a telehealth with another vet in order to get it straightened out. She then hung up on me.
The customer service is appalling. The care is subpar. The clinic clearly cannot keep track of the medications they prescribe or their charting. Instead of providing a resolution, they opted to attempt to force me to pay for a telehealth visit in order to correct their mistake.
Update: Clinic called this morning with resolution. Changed rating from 1...
