This was the most unsatisfactory alterations I've ever had. I brought my wedding dress in after a great recommendation. I needed a hem, a bustle and the bust needed to be taken in. I also wanted to add sleeves (the designer told me it was possible). Strauss said I didn't need sleeves and that I should just buy detachable ones on Amazon. That my dress couldnt have sleeves/ that it would look bad. I almost cried at my first fitting and when I asked about taking my dress home and doing sleeves elsewhere, all of a sudden she said they do sleeves all the time. My hem was not done properly and was lopsided, the horsehair was pulled too tight in many places. When taking in the bust, she ripped the top and hid it in a dart. On top of that she wouldn't listen to me that the cups it came with, needed to be removed and placed in a slightly different spot (it caused a weird buckling that she tried to fix with more darts. The seamstress who fixed my dress discovered the rip when removing some darts. We took out the cups and added a different bra that worked amazing, no extra darts needed. The bustle looked odd and she never went over bustle options, just picked one she liked and added it. It was not appropriate for a lace gown like that. I was under the impression that the bustle would be discussed at a later appointment. It was not. I'll add pics of how I got my dress from the designer, Strauss tailors work and how my new seamstress fixed it. I asked for a refund and they said no, I would have to bring it back to them. Why would I bring it back to them when it was such disappointing quality. SHE RIPPED MY DRESS TOO. Those darts didnt need to be there in the first place. Their alterations cost me ~300 and triple that to fix. I've heard good things about their suit tailoring but do not bring your wedding dress here. Especially if its beaded or has lace. A message to Strauss: please refund me.
Also: my dress smelled like chemicals when I picked it up and they hung my dress by the beaded strap. Like twisted it around the hanger instead of using the straps on the inside. For every dress I have tried on, I was told not to hang it by the straps but use the support straps on the INSIDE of the gown. I found lace and beads all over my dress that had not been sewn down after she altered it. Just poor quality all around.
If I could give 0 stars I would
Edit: I said I wasn't happy, still wanted sleeves and I didn't like the bustle. I want confident in your work and how you said you could change the bustle so I asked if I could just take it...
Read moreI picked Straus Tailor Shop to have some clothes altered based on Google reviews and they were spot on! I took 5 dressy garments here hoping they'd do a quality job and that I'd get at least one of the outfits back in time for a family wedding the following week. (The pantsuit I wanted to wear I ordered online, and it had just arrived late the day before.) I knew I would need the pants hemmed, because I'm short. The tank top and jacket for that suit were attached, which I didn't know when I ordered it, so I asked if they could separate them, in case I wanted to take the jacket off. I also brought a dress that was too big, and another tank top that was too big along with the pants that needed hemming from a different pantsuit. Everything was done within 48 hours and was very nicely done! Couldn't be more pleased with the results! One of the pairs of pants needed to be a little shorter, but Anna took care of that while I was changing back into my street clothes. And they were perfect. (They probably would've been ok with the first alteration, but I wanted them just a little shorter for a lower heel later in the evening.) Anna did a wonderful job! Very nice people who did very nice work....
Read moreI brought them a $337 NorthFace jacket to get patched they had it for a week so I called and asked about it said they needed more time this being my only winter jacket said i needed sooner than later they called me back an hour later said it was done, they did a HORRIBLE JOB it was RUSHED and I will NEVER USE THEM AGAIN! An hour after I initially posted this review I received a call asking for me to bring my jacket back saying the day would make me happy and to take down the review. I brought in my friend who used to be a seamstress, the person that helped me was rude to me saying it was my fault for not telling her?! I told her I wanted a small very discreet patch, and she was telling my friend to 'make her listen' meaning myself. I told her 'I have ears'. She said she did a good job, which was not the case so I did not feel comfortable leaving it with her to fix, I felt she would only make it look worse, she said the review was 'my mistake' no my mistake was...
