I have never been here to Rugsan African restaurant until now but I have gone past it many times.
This was a lunch outing with a friend I had not seen or spent time with in a while and they exclaimed it was a unique eatery. After looking at the very extensive menu, which was very impressive I settled on the GOAT MEAT on a bed of NOODLES, lettuce, and a few different kinds of dipping sauces. BIG PORTIONS 😍
I do not remember if I had goat meat before but it was severed with the bones intact.
I was a little overwhelmed by this and automatically reached for the utensils. I barely touched the goat meat and it literally fell off the bone. I never realized how tender this meat is. The whole meal was perfectly seasoned and tasty.
(Side Note: the bathroom was immaculate, I was impressed.)
Mohamed H., the owner was a perfect multi-sever-and-cook. Gave us the right about of time to decide what we wanted and checked in to see if we needed anything else and was also a great public-people person. He smiled and engaged with us, in a very welcoming atmosphere.
I defiantly recommend this restaurant and give it 5 out of 5...
Read moreThe food is just amazing. I have tried few other african restaurant in town but this is my favorite. Me and my husband ordered Sambusa, sports platter with goat meat and chicken. Sambusa. was fried to perfection. I usually don't do good with deep fried food but for some reason, I was able to eat 2 and dis had any issues. The sports platter had a perfectly cooked spice rice with chicken, goatmeat and lettuce. Chicken and goat meat were perfectly seasoned. If you like spicy, you got to try green sauce. Trust me they are amazing and the guy in the counter (I think owner) offered me two more. I did not even ask. If you don't mind waiting and eating fresh african cusine, this would be the place to go. Highly recommended. I can't wait to go back. Also, I thought I should add, this is not a fancy fine dining restaurant but the food here is great. It has limited seating area and may not be the most appealing interior. But hey, I have had several experiences where the interior is sharp but had dissapointing experiences with food. For me if I'm going out to eat, my main concern is good food. As they say Good Food...
Read moreBought a coupon on Save Coin and wasn't sure what to expect, as we hadn't eaten East African food before. I ordered the jabati chicken wrap and enjoyed it - good flavor and tender chicken and wrap. It came warm with 2 pieces and wrapped in aluminum foil, but only 1 piece is shown in my picture. The wrap material ('tortilla') was tender and a little sweet...reminding me a little of a crepe.
The workers were very friendly, helpful and knew English well enough that we could communicate and order. The main drawbacks were the plastic eating utensils and the cleanliness of both the eating and cooking areas - as they were each on the edge of my comfort level. There were signs to clean up your own table after eating due to COVID, but the table didn't appear to have been wiped down and the cooking area floor was in need of a good cleaning.
I would go back, as I enjoy trying new foods and sometimes the most authentic food comes from the less-than-pristine atmospheres, but be forewarned.
