We went in to get my wife's engagement ring resized and were greeted by a very loud man wearing a gold chain and two giant diamond rings, one of which read "DIAMOND KING". I'm assuming this was the owner.

We inquired about getting her engagement ring sized up to match the wedding band because it was too tight. He asked if we would like to have them joined together and we declined. Sometimes when we travel, it's nice to be able to just wear the band and not look too flashy. He said if we ever wanted to join them, we would need both rings resized again. We declined again, having already talked it over prior. Then he had the audacity to say "Well, if you just wear one ring or the other it looks like you're trying not to look married." He said this loudly with other customers in the store so everyone would hear. We were both shocked that he would suggest that not fusing the rings is a sign that a wife wants to be unfaithful. Again, I firmly told him I disagree and we already made a decision.

FYI, it was about $110 to resize the one ring. It would be $110+110+60ish if he got us to resize both and fuse them. This sleazy man is willing to try to embarrass you, insult you and your wife for some extra money.

When we came back to pick up the ring which was ready the same day (only positive thing about this experience) he "apologized" for pressuring us to fuse the rings. Then he repeated AGAIN "It's just that when you wear only one of the rings, it just says to everyone that you don't want to look married." Absolute clown of a salesman. I will not...

I would like to say that Tom and the gang at Borthwick Jewelry in Ferndale are the best jewelers and some of the most honest and friendly people I have ever had the pleasure to know! Once again they have surpassed my expectations of what good customer service can be! I bought my wife an anniversary ring and then took it back in a week later to have some bands put on it! I like spoiling my wife LOL! Anyway they did a great job getting it all soldered together but unfortunately with it being rose gold and super soft it just wasn't up to there standards or ours and we all agreed. They did everything they could plus more to make me and especially my wife happy with another option, which is what she wanted originally anyway I just couldn't afford it and my buddy Tom made it happen!! all I can say is that I couldn't be happier with the end resolution and result! Happy Wife is a Happy life right? LOL :) If you dont like honest opinions and real customer service with genuine people that you wouldn't mind seeing outside of there place of business, then this might not be the place for you. They dont try to sell you the most expensive thing under the glass like the mall stores do! Let them know what you want or like and what your budget is and as far as I have seen and been a part of they make it happen, every time! I shopped at borthwick for many years. The jewelry is beautiful , however I will never shop there again, let me take a moment to explain why. My husband purchased a ring for me to add to my existing wedding band . The young man assured me he would have no problem adding that to my ring and removing the one we were replacing. When I was told I could come pick it up I was excited , but to my disappointment the ring was damaged. I asked if they would fix it, quickly they said, “yes we’ll make it right”. Again, I waited for my ring, two weeks later I got the call it was ready. Much to my surprise my ring was worse. That was when I made the decision to take my damaged wedding ring and go somewhere else. Later I requested my other ring back that they took from the original wedding band. I was devastated, that ring was completely destroyed. A few weeks later I received a card from Mr. Borthwick apologizing for the damage to my rings and two gifts cards one for 25.00 to borthwick’’s jewelry and 50.00 for dinner . I sent them back feeling insulted . I have now spent over 2000.00 to have my rings fixed from the damage by his jeweler. I would not recommend this...
