The man who runs HawgHead Comics is friendly and personable, but is he a plain dealer?
I ordered the "Archie vs Predator" comic mini-series through his shop, and pre-paid for them. When I went to pick up the books, the man insisted upon my showing him the receipt from when I had bought the books. In the meantime, I had moved, and I'd lost track of the receipt. My transaction had been made with the store's owner, and there was no question of my identity, I'm easy to recognize, and who else would have ordered those particular comics? To get them, I ended up paying twice for the same comics. It was nothing but a low-down move on the part of the store's owner.
My childhood collection of comic books had about 500 issues, mostly of Marvel comics from the late 1970s and early 1980s. It included a few John Byrne "X-men" and most of the Marvel "Star Wars" run and other books which I am certain had some significant market value. I gave my collection to my nephew, thinking he might like comics. He didn't. I told my nephew to take them to HawgHead and sell them. HawgHead paid him $40 total for all the books. You might say "seller beware" but in my business I don't rip off kids.
These are facts. Make your own judgement about the man and his HawgHead Comics. The man tells an entertaining story, and he has charm—but I'll never go there again, nor would I send any one there...
Read moreDon't let them try and price your pokemon cards. Also bad environment, tried to strike a conversation, got talked to like they didn't want to talk or waste time looking. The lady handled them with no care. Didn't matter if one card was 3 bucks and they don't use PriceChart which shows actual sells and pricing. I don't want it thrown down like a poker card. She flicked them down on the table with her finger which bent one slightly. I get it, not for you but the collection is from 1999 to 2002. Getting some graded now almost seems pointless because of how they were handled in the store. I won't go back, was mainly curious but I didn't seem wanted there honestly. Don't tell someone you take foreign Pokemon cards then not even look at them when I come back with them? Wasn't going to leave this review but, people need to go somewhere else for Pokémon. The owners should have said they mainly only buy...
Read moreI've been going to the shop for the better part of the last two decades. When I was little it was THE place to crack pokemon packs. As I've grown and my interests has changed it seems like the store has anticipated those changes and caters to my liking. Great selection of back issues. A gigantic library of very well organized mtg cards. And the lowest priced packs should cracking be on your agenda. For me the store takes me back to better times when all i had to worry about was if i was going to open a Charizard or not. You cant put a price on that. It's a great store and to many a pillar of the community ran by a stand up dude who will take care of...
