I'm finally editing my original review which was generous with stars.
This is what I'll give to the Cliffs: 1/3 of a star for parking; 1/3 of a star for location; and 1/3 of a star for views.
We moved to the Cliffs in March 2017. We noticed some leaks in the hallway which we brought up to the office staff and they said "we'll take care of it". It never got taken care of and next thing you know, we get that massive hail storm and it tears up the roof of the building. Over 300 holes and gallons of water pouring into the building. We were on the third floor and we had gallons of water coming in from all the light fixtures and the ceiling was sagging from the water damage. We were sleeping in the living room because it was the one place that the water wasn't dripping all over and we had all our furniture covered in plastic. The apartment above us had their ceiling fall down in the middle of the night and that was the scariest sound to wake up to. Yet, they kept us in that building without options to relocate us or break the lease for over 20 days. Visible black mold started to grow. The office communicated NOTHING about repairs and next steps. The office management is terrible. You email them, they don't respond. You call them and the front desk person says they'll have someone call you back, no call backs. Not until there was an electrical fire in the building and then they decided it's time to evacuate us and give us the option to move to another unit or break the lease. So when they decided that they were closing the building, they said "you have 2 days to evacuate the building" this included moving all our stuff and this was in the middle of the week when people are working. So my neighbors and I spent Thursday and Friday moving our stuff down the stairs because they shut the elevator down because the water saturated the electrical lines may cause another electrical fire. Luckily, the unit we were moving into was available, so we just moved our stuff from one apartment to the other.
We had another hailstorm the other day and GUESS WHAT our ceilings are leaking again. Not as bad but there is still water pooling in light fixtures. I called the office and they said that they'll remind the maintenance guys. Still no one has come by. The longer they wait, the more mold will grow within the walls. Don't even get me started on the mold. The walls smell like mold. So if you have asthma like myself, you'll be miserable.
Colorado gets hail. I don't know why the integrity of the roofs at the Cliffs can't withstand even a small hail storm.
Save yourself some sanity and don't move here.
If after reading this you still want to move into the Cliffs. Here's what I recommend: Don't set up for automatic rent payments in the portal. They will charge what's higher than what's on the lease. If you don't pay attention, the system will just run the payment and I've found it's impossible to get the refund. Best thing to do, pay in the form of a check directly to the office for what you owe. Open tickets for everything but don't expect that they'll get to it in a timely manner. Expect that you'll fix things on your own. I've had tickets open for a month that haven't been touched. If there's a funky charge on your payment portal bring it up to the office before paying it. It is likely their mistake, They had to relocate us to another apartment and I paid a fee that I thought was prorated rent but the charge was for electricity in the old apartment. We had switched our electricity to the new apartment but the Cliffs didn't update their records and continued to charge us in the old apartment. They said they would refund us when they get proof that we paid the electricity for the new apartment. We provided receipts and still no refund a month later. If you find yourself in a similar situation and renters insurance is not covering what they should, file a complaint to Colorado Department...
Read moreI’ll start with the good:
Property management is so nice. The tour was great, Sam had a very positive attitude and seemed to be happy to work. Allison was great during move in, very personable. The apartment they tour you in is very pretty, no doubt. Free parking is cool. Location is awesome. I never have an issue finding a parking spot. People here seem pretty nice? The lights in the apartment are cool! They have a lil remote so I can turn the light off without leaving my bed lol.
The bad:
Pretty much everything else. The apartment you tour and the apartment you’re actually going to live in will be incredibly different. Closet rods were broken, shower rod was broken, both I replaced myself as it was only a few bucks. The apartment was FILTHY at move in. I honestly don’t think they even have a cleaning crew come clean these before you move in, which is crazy since you won’t be allowed to move in until after 4pm the day your lease starts. Kitchen cabinets were absolutely disgusting , the window blinds in the bedroom are broken. They’re more yellow than Homer Simpson. I’m mean truly, it looks like someone smoked in here for 15 years. The deck on my patio is incredibly unsafe. From nails sticking out of boards, to boards literally rotting out, you can feel the entire patio move when you step on it. Not safe, a huge liability that should have been corrected before move in. When I moved in, there was a whole bed in the hallway for at least a week. Yeah, mattress, bed frames, a whole bed. Who knows how long it was there before I moved in. Someone drug it into the middle of the parking lot, and then maintenance removed it, but likely because they didn’t really have a choice. It was in the middle of the parking lot. Lot lighting does not work and it’s incredibly dark on the grounds. There was dog poop in the hallway for over a week, requested maintenance to clean it but after no response, ever, I just took it upon myself. Obviously, this was caused by a pig of a tenant, however, management should have addressed this. I’ve never seen a cleaning crew in this building. Ever. Lastly, for building issues, the entry door glass has been shattered since move in. This is kind of a safety issue, don’t you think?
My number one complaint after about 2 weeks of living here? I got stuck in the elevator. Thank god, the elevator worked for my entire move in, as I’m on the 4th floor, but it has not worked since. There is no sign stating it’s out of order. They sent a tech out, who stated he fixed it. That same day, I used it and got stuck and the fire department had to come save me lol. I was stuck in the elevator for over 20 minutes. This is a major fire hazard. Obviously, things break, but property management should do their due diligence and mark the elevator broken. I truly was expecting a phone call from property management, as the fire department notified them one of their tenants was stuck in an elevator. However, nobody reached out because nobody cares here. A simple apology for the scary situation would have gone a long way, and would have said a lot about the way you care for your residents. However, your lack of accountability on this definitely made me view property management differently. If you plan on moving here, just know the apartment you tour will be nothing like the apartment you live in. I also hope you don’t get stuck in an elevator lol
Update:5 months later and our elevator still...
Read moreThis review will be edited as I live and stay at this place longer, but for the moment, I wanted to share my experience so that it may hopefully help others.
I chose the Cliffs primarily for the fact that it is 3 minutes away from my job. When touring the premises, I was impressed by how quiet and clean everything was. The model apartment was wonderful, and the fitness center was very tidy and interesting. And...that's where the butterflies and rainbows ended.
The application process was painful and inconsistent. I was told things would be ready at certain times and was let down. The leasing agent promised to email me my lease agreement and apparently forgot. Promised to send it Wed. Called Wed, was promised that it would be sent Friday. Went to the office Friday at opening hours. The office was still empty at 10AM, so I left a message. Did not get a return call so I called since apartment was promised to be ready before Saturday and I needed to know whether to cancel my UHaul reservation. Upon finally reaching somebody on Friday around 2PM, was told lease and unit (with keys) would be ready by end of day.
After work at 4PM, went to the office in person since I still hadn't received my lease and they were supposed to close at 5PM. Was told nothing was ready but that it would definitely be ready by the end of the day. I said I was prepared to sit and wait, to which I was informed that the manager had "no idea" when they would be done but that they promised to drop off the keys in the drop box and that everything would "definitely" be ready by Saturday.
Today is the fateful day when I made plans and asked off work so that I could move from my apartment in Colorado Springs to this place 1.5 hours away. I have no faith or trust in the manager and leasing manager, who don't seem to know their right foot from their left. Therefore, I will be waiting until the office opens to call them before I pay for my moving truck.
As for the facilities themselves -- Despite them promising to show me the place where I would be living several times during the week and breaking that promise repeatedly, I am semi-confident that I won't be displeased by my unit. Everything was just renovated, and even though the elevators and hallways between units are quite dirty and gross, overall I'd say that these apartments are cleaner than most I've seen in the area.
ATTENTION: In regards to the multiple reviews left here about issues with "collection companies". I tried to investigate this and ran across a gentleman in the office who was a previous resident having this EXACT problem. A collections company mailed him with money he "owed" to the apartment complex. The manager said "it's out of my hands" and that she sent them information regarding the fact that he had already paid this balance. I asked the leasing agent about this and she looked very uncomfortable, simply saying that this only happened to people who lied about getting "renter's insurance". This sounds fishy to me, so beware.
If this place wasn't so close to work, I would not consider it after all of this. I've signed a short term lease just in case I run into any more issues until I can find a better place to live. If nothing happens in these 3 months, then I may stay. It's hard to beat being able to walk to work on call-in and late night shifts. I will update this review if anything changes. For now, my best advice is to be extremely wary in...
