In many ways, the work of a customer is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their products and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we customer's must face is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a customer truly risks something and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. The world is often unkind to new stores. The new needs friends. Last night, I experienced something new, an extraordinary evening from a singularly unexpected source. To say that both the evening and the owners have challenged my preconceptions about hobby stores is a gross understatement. They have rocked me to my core. In the past, I have made no secret of my disdain for hobby store famous mottos, "come for a great experience". But I realize only now do I truly understand what that means. Not every store can provide a great experience, but a great experience can come from anywhere. It is difficult to imagine more humble origins than those of the owners now running Guilded Raven Games who is, in this customer's opinion, nothing less than the finest store in NJ. I will be returning to Guilded Raven Games soon, excited for more.

Horrible experience. The geek workers did not acknowledge me when I first walked in. They kept droning on about their senseless conversation things that had nothing to do with the job or the customers in the store. I tried to get the guy's attention I asked him if he could help me and he just brushed me off. 3 honest I could deal with that.... If the store wasn't such a dump with no organization. I'm a war gamer I play them and I design them. I simply wanted to go to the store see what it was all about and find out if they could answer some questions for me on some new games that are coming out. Instead the worker droned on about how his mother was moving back to Japan and something about how he was such a nerd who wasn't really living up to his potential or whatever. I had zoned out by that point.

Absolutely AMAZING game store. 10/10. Completely chill owner, plenty of tables to play, great curated collection of games for purchase, but an EXCELLENT selection (Library) for playing in store. I'm not in this area often, but I'll make this a stop every time. Truly dope.

I’ve been into trading card games since I was a child, (Mostly Magic:The Gathering) and I was ecstatic to see that this shop had a lively community that has the hobbies as I do.

I’ve been here a handful of times and I have to say that every time I’ve been here, I was greeted with open arms and received impeccable service. So much so that gradually, customers and employees alike became akin to Family. I’ve been to many local game stores around the state, and none have treated me as well as the Gilded Raven has.

This store proudly displays a meticulous selection of trading cards and board games catering to all enthusiasts and all ages. Whether anybody is seeking the latest releases or nostalgic classics, they have something for everyone and that’s honestly a breath of fresh air.

Even more impressive than the vast array of merchandise is the staff. Their knowledge and expertise is unmatched and will often put a smile on your face when you receive something that you didn’t even know you needed. Seriously, happens all the time. Their enthusiasm is infectious, creating an environment where every visit feels like a welcomed reunion among old friends.

Equally noteworthy is the camaraderie among the customers. People who often get together for gaming sessions (sometimes that last all night long) or to engage in lively discussions about shared interests. This sense of camaraderie combined with the shop’s inviting ambiance ensures that newcomers quickly feel at home during their first or second visit.

I’m almost done I promise, just a few more anecdotes.

This place, to me, is more than just a game and trading card shop. It’s a sanctuary for enthusiasts. A haven where passion and camaraderie work in harmonic synergy. With its exceptional location, knowledgeable staff, and welcoming atmosphere, The Gilded Raven sets the standard for excellence in its field.

Good food and coffee nearby too.

Also, recently, I’ve been coming here about 3-4 times a week. I live 35 miles away. There are 5 local game shops closer to me. That...

They have a lot of potential at this location. But unfortunately, the employees, as well as the regulars, use foul language loudly and without remorse, it’s more than immature, it’s blatantly foul and unnecessary. I wouldn’t mind if I heard cursing while eaves dropping. But I shouldn’t be on the other side of your store, and able to hear the cursing as if they were right next to me. My six year old was with me when loud F word expletives were yelled by a particularly loud staff member/helper. I was surprised some of the mature staff members weren’t stepping in or even acknowledging there was a child in the store. And it wasn’t just once. He paraded around the store continuing to repeat his foul language

On top of the foul language, occasionally there will be inappropriate topics, sensual in nature, and subjects being discussed at certain tables rather loudly and childishly. Subjects that need to discussed at a card game store, where minors come to play. I fully understand that the card game/store community is full of unique characters. But your store shouldn’t be a sanctuary for foul language and inappropriate behavior.

There was one particular instance during a MTG draft where a 12-15 year old boy was visibly made uncomfortable by the comments made between two other players who were clearly regulars.

It’s hard to tell who actually works for the store. I don’t think there’s any type of work indicator to make staff members easily distinguishable from regular guests.

I truly hope a real honest and difficult conversation can be had between staff and regulars to re establish what is appropriate and what should be reserved for a more private...
