I was fortunate enough to squeeze in a visit to this wonderful candy shop on my recent trip to the East Coast. They had opened up the entire store for the Easter season, and it was magical! There was a toddler-sized chocolate bunny, a slab of chocolate depicting the Last Supper in relief, and Peter Rabbit-esque bunnies. There was a pyramid of house-made brittle in every flavor imaginable. I have always loved their brittle, which is thin enough to melt in your mouth, and has just the right amount of salt for when you're craving it. The jalapeno peanut brittle was amazing, not too spicy. Back to the chocolate...my baby brother STILL remembers the chocolate dinosaur I bought him, something like 15 years ago. I used to buy the chocolate motorcycle for my dad, who rode with the local Battleground chapter. This time, I chose cherry cordials (the texture of the cherry inside is superb) for my husband, and chocolate kittens for my daughters. Old Monmouth Candies' offerings are so personal and special, there is truly something for everyone. Not just during Easter, but any time of year in the front part of the shop, you can get nostalgic, classic candy and chocolate truffles, even sugar-free. Try the gorgeous "fruit slices!" One last thing. The customer service here is old fashioned. By that, I mean that the bright, happy folks working here greet everyone with a smile, whether you need to place a complicated special order or just want to look around without spending any money. It was wonderful to see that some things...

Read moreI have grown up with this family owned candy store. I remember my mother getting chocolate wafers to bring home and make chocolate lollipops for my classes and teachers. She would make them a few times per year and yes we still have the molds to make them. Walking into the store you are overwhelmed with so many choices with all 3 different kinds of chocolate and even a sugar free section. There is plenty of parking therefore make sure you stop here and stock up. The prices are very reasonable and you truly cannot pick a bad piece of candy. I can not wait to go back and try something new. I always love anything with peanut butter and the ones filled with mint. Make sure to stop by and stock up, I promise you will be...
