I took my husband's aunt here for a girls' day at the spa. She had lived in Turkey for about seven years and had loved the hamam experience while there, but had been unable to find one back home in Texas that was close by and of good quality. I found a Groupon deal to let us both try it out and see how we liked it, and we were both thoroughly pleased by the experience.
We were a little concerned when we first walked up because they appeared to be closed (we were about fifteen minutes early for our 11:00 appointment, and they are supposed to open at 10:00), but shortly after we walked up, one of the ladies appeared and apologized for being late. There had been unexpected road closures on her normal route and she had had to take the long way around to get there that morning. She immediately ushered us in and got us situated with cups of water in the lovely waiting area while she went to turn everything on. Soon enough, we were surrounded by tranquil music and were noting the lovely Turkish decor.
In the changing area, gave each of us disposable undergarments (bikini top and bottom), Turkish peshtemals, and non-slip sandals, and told us to go ahead and change and then go back out into the waiting area. (My aunt and I both opted to not wear the bikini top, since it didn't fit either of us terribly well, but they said that was fine.)
The Groupon was for their Signature Hamam treatment. My aunt and I also opted to purchase entry to the group hamam area so that we could relax there while taking turns for the Groupon treatment, since they couldn't do it on both of us at the same time. I must say that the extra $15 for entrance to the hamam area was well worth it. I was so relaxed from just lounging on the heated marble in the warm water and the quiet of the space that I was ready to melt into putty by the time it was my turn for the bath!
The woman who was taking care of us, Esmeralda, was so sweet and attentive. After taking care of my aunt, she ushered me to the steam room, where she had me disrobe and then applied black soap. Then, she told me to enjoy the steam room for ten more minutes, during which time she would pop in and check on me partway through to make sure that I could handle the steam and temperature. I was in bliss already. The only thing to interrupt this was the steam jets. I was so startled the first time they went off that I nearly jumped out of my skin! It sounded like a giant steam cleaner going off, and definitely took away some of the relaxing sensations I had built up. Fortunately, it only went off a couple of times when I first entered the steam room, so the rest of the time was quiet and peaceful, but that was the only detracting factor from the day.
Esmeralda then escorted me to the bathing room, in which she rinsed off the black soap and had me lie face-down on the marble table to start exfoliation. She was very courteous and attentive, always checking that the water temperature was comfortable and making sure that the pressure of the exfoliation was not too harsh. Then came a mud mask which she spread all over and let sit for a few minutes while she washed and conditioned my hair. Then, she rinsed off the mud mask and applied what I can only describe as a really fun "bubble bath." She used a pillowcase to swish around a solution of body wash and water and then when it was nice and bubbly, she wrung all the bubbles out over my body until I was covered in them. It was so unique! A final rinse washed away all the bubbles and took one more pass through my hair to remove excess conditioner.. She helped me stand up and handed me the shower head and said that I could use it to rinse myself off some more if I wished. Then, I put on the sandals and a fresh robe, and walked back out to the waiting room where they had served my aunt and I refreshing and lightly sweetened mint tea and a few tasty treats like baklava and macarons. We were in heaven!
Doubtless to say, we will be back, even though it's a bit of a trek for both of us to get out there. It was...
Read moreWill share two experiences here-
The first time I went here was with a friend back in December. All in all, it was great. From the cleanliness, greeting at the door, to the people who did the body scrub and the facial (and massage for my friend). I sent another friend here as a treat shortly after because of how much I enjoyed it.
This time around, it was different. Here’s why:
I called a couple of times to make an appointment, and no one answered. I received a call back and I scheduled a body scrub and facial again for my mother and I. I appreciated the manager honoring a Groupon price I found so we were off to an ok start.
When we went in, no one at the front desk. Once inside, someone asked if we had been helped. When we said no, she had to then go get someone else to assist. We just sat there confused until they figured out what to do. a “happy birthday” sign was left on the wall- very odd. However, this wasn’t a big deal. Unprofessional, but not a big deal.
The changing room still had a prior customers disposable underwear, bra and robe inside the room. Gross.
A prior customers disposable sandals were left in the middle of the locker room. This stayed there till the very end. Clearly, no one went to check the status of the room.
The body scrub room had a bunch of hair stuck to the drain- that was beyond disgusting.
The worse part is, we had someone brand new doing the body scrub. NOTHING against her at all- we totally get she’s new, but when the spa’s prices are exorbitant, you’d think either- A) They’d do better training before putting someone on the floor or B) Reduce for the price for having a student (like ALL salons do). Literally, it was her FIRST day. She received training from someone else who didn’t know English- and then bam, she’s expected to do her job. Poor thing didn’t know about the products she was using. She also didn’t do the bubble process right at all- when I came last night, the scrubber had put foamy bubbles all of me as a part of the last process before the rain shower is turned on. For both my mom and I, we barely got any- it a couple of bubbles on one tiny part of our body. Anyone can easily make more bubbles in their own bath tub. This was a little bit of a hard process and she didn’t know how to do it. The price for a facial and body scrub was initially $180 or something- she you charge that much, you better have staff members who know thoroughly about what they’re doing!
Lastly, I noticed the desserts were even tinier than what I received back in December. Maybe a way to cut down the cost? Also, the tea was not good at all- definitely not the mint tea I had the first time I came. It tasted bitter.
I love the idea of a Hammam and I wish they kept up the same type of service I received the first time. Without these issues, I would’ve definitely given it 5 stars! I’d give it less now but I have to give my esthetician some credit- she was...
Read moreI recently visited the spa for the first time and wanted to share some feedback about my experience. As someone who has never been to a Moroccan hamam before, I wasn’t sure what to expect, so I asked several questions while making the appointment, such as whether I needed to prepare in any specific way or if there were any details I should be aware of beforehand. Unfortunately, I was told nothing in response to these inquiries.
I was informed that the procedure would be 50 minutes long and would involve being scrubbed down, followed by tea afterward. However, I wasn’t made aware of important details, like the fact that I should not wear makeup. I wore makeup to my appointment and immediately regretted it when I entered the sauna room.
The service itself left me quite confused. My service provider didn’t speak English, and since I don’t speak Spanish, there was a significant communication gap. Even basic instructions, like what to expect during the process or an explanation of the steps, were missing. In many services, such as a dentist visit, they walk you through what’s happening, but this was lacking during my appointment.
Upon arrival, I was asked to fill out forms and then led to a locker room, which I appreciated for its security and changing areas. Afterward, I was taken to a dimly lit room and rubbed down with something, but again, no explanation was given as to what it was or its purpose. I was then led to the sauna, where I was left alone without instructions about how long I should stay in there or whether I should follow her out.
The stone slab I was asked to lie on during the scrub session was extremely uncomfortable, and I felt back pain from lying on it for 50 minutes. A small rolled-up towel was given for head support, but it wasn’t enough to make me comfortable. The scrub session itself was decent, but I felt gross afterward, as water and scrub residue ended up in my hair and on my face.
At the end of the scrub, I was asked if I wanted shampoo, which I was thankful for since the scrub residue had gotten everywhere. However, I also became concerned about the cleanliness of the facility. When I was finished, I noticed my service provider using Kaboom cleaner to clean the room, which made me wonder if this was all that was being used to sanitize the space. It left me feeling uneasy about how well the area was cleaned, especially since my pores were exposed during the treatment.
Unfortunately, after my appointment, I noticed breakouts on my face and neck. I’m in my 30s and haven’t had breakouts in years, so this was particularly concerning for me.
Overall, I believe the experience could be greatly improved with better communication and more transparency about the process and hygiene standards. I hope this feedback is helpful, and I’m open to discussing my experience further if needed.
I spent about $150 for the...
