I came in for a Pokemon Cup today and the prize support was absolutely abysmal. Entry was $20 (which is fine) but I expected to receive prize packs (typically $5 = 1 pack) but only received 1 single pack. Other FLGS i go too usual use that rate. I waited around after the Cup expecting more prize support but was left disappointed. I asked staff why the reason for low support and they verbatim said "our locals decided to change the prize support to give more incentive to top players but we used to do a pack per win". While this is nice for seasoned players, for someone who is new to the game and was looking forward to play at my first cup, this left me severely disappointed and unfortunately empty handed. This only incentivizes me to not play because it discourages new players and promotes seasoned players. I understand top players have more play support because that is definitely understandable but to shaft new players is something i wont tolerate. Not only that, but prize packs are given freely to stores so they should be more than happy to give out and promote prize packs. Other players I have talked too have also complained about the prize support but GC has yet to change their policy. Unfortunately, until this policy is changed GC has lost a hopeful pokemon player. I advise those pokemon players looking to attend to gladly move along to the next FLGS.
EDIT: Unable to respond to the comment so I'm making an edit. I told staff this was my first cup and explained my frustrations. I asked if there was someone I could explain this too. The judge politely motioned to the product manager next to him who was apart of the conversation and then said to talk to the owner but was unsure if you left. (from what he told me). The product manager next to him said unfortunately that was policy and at no point mentioned compensation for new players. As for packs being scarce, totally understandable but as for play packs, there was more than enough (based on images shown by other players). Unfortunately the comment hasn't changed my mind but apologize if there was a...
Read moreGreat new game store in town. I was in St. Johns visiting from out of state, and saw these folks had just opened up. I wanted to snag a few packs of classic Jumpstart to play with my sibling in town, and they got me squared away with some great recommendations and conversation. Working for a well-established LGS in Tennessee, I could tell these folks absolutely know what they're doing. They've got a Wizards Premium location in Maryland, and this location has all the pieces to follow in those footsteps. They've got a good selection of Magic, Pokémon TCG, D&D, Games Workshop, and a maaaassive board game selection. They have some bits and bobs from other games like Flesh & Blood as well. Their event space makes the most of the space they're working with, and it uses good chairs and tables (no folding chairs in sight)! The only concern I'd have would be parking on evenings when big gaming events line up with other events going on in the same shopping center. Overall though, great space. Great store setup. Highly recommended. Support your local...
Read moreLove having a game store in the area, and even better that it be Gamers-Corps! Tim, Mitch and all the staff are great, friendly and helpful. There are plenty of events happening all the time and everyone genuinely just wants to make it a welcoming and fun environment where people can gather to roll dice, sling cardboard and have good time together. Nothing but good experiences so far and I'm sure that...
