I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Pinch A Penny. In April 2023, I purchased a Jandy JXi heater for $4,563.05 to heat an overflow hot tub. Unfortunately, the unit stopped working in November 2025--after only 2.5 years of use.
When I initially contacted Pinch A Penny for assistance, they referred me to Florida Leisure Pool, stating that warranty service was handled through them. After multiple conversations, I learned that my unit was no longer under warranty, as it only lasted for one year. I then scheduled a service call with Pinch A Penny for January, only for them to cancel it on the day of the appointment. When I called to ask why, they told me they don't handle warranty work. I clarified that this was not a warranty issue and requested a callback--but they never followed up.
Eventually, I had Florida Leisure Pool and Spa inspect the unit. Their technician determined that the manifold needs to be replaced due to a leak, and the Fenwal control panel also requires replacement, with an estimated repair cost of approximately $800. Given the cost of the unit and our limited usage (only for an overflow hot tub, not a full pool), I am extremely disappointed that it failed so soon.
I understand that the warranty is only one year, but I would have expected better durability and customer service. This experience has been frustrating, and I cannot recommend Pinch A Penny based on their lack of support. I expected better service for such a...
Read moreThe pool cleaner did not work. I called within a few days and was told that it was because my pool was dirty and to wait a few days. I did have some algae in the pool and I was charged an extra $100.00 for extra help in getting the pool in shape. The extra help never came. Meanwhile the weekly service started. The young man spent about 5 minutes on our pool and then ran off before we had a chance to talk to him. Same the next week. So I went to the store and told them that the pool cleaner still was not working and that the person was rude and did not perform as per the original agreement. He came out from the back of the store and proceeded to shame me for owning the type of pool that I have (it came with the house). He then tried to humiliate me by pointing out that the pool cleaner I bought was a poor choice and would not work with my setup. When I told him it was recommended by his boss (the owner's son-in-law), he stammered and tried to back pedal. Over the next few days I spent hours cleaning the pool in hopes that the pool cleaner would work on a clean pool. It did not and I took it back for a refund. I was charged a 20% restocking fee and told I could not have the $100.00 back that I paid for extra help in cleaning the algae. Finally later that day the owner called. She was arrogant, condescending, and argumentative to the point that I finally just hung up the phone. Although I did get a partial refund, I am still out...
Read moreStaff member was very unfriendly and seemed to know little about a pretty common item — chlorine granules. We’ve been long-term customers and never had really good service or experiences here. But today, we vowed to never return. The environment in this store contributes to the panic crippling our economy. As the rest of our country and state are trying to tone down the panic and getting back to normal so ALL businesses can reopen and our economy can recover, businesses responding in this extreme way contribute to the problem. It’s full-blown craziness and hysteria in this store. Plus, the employees have never been particularly nice or helpful, but today the employee with whom we interacted was downright rude, especially when we acted surprised when she said store had no restroom. I know that’s a lie because my child has a medical condition that often requires quick access to a bathroom. She’s used the bathroom there. The employee said her manager told her to say that. That’s ridiculous. They’ve lost our business forever. Rudeness there will no longer...
