Convenient for a neighborhood store and relatively inexpensive, but the cashiers are often rude. It is as if they are trained to be rude. Cashiers are definitely trained to NOT put your purchases into your bags and they tend to be rude about this as well. It would appear that upper management is under the erroneous impression that not bagging groceries speeds up the line and is a service to all, an annoying misconception.
This Aldi is a short walk from my apartment, so I resort to doing some shopping here. This is a desperation shopping destination and NOT one where I would plan on picking up a lot of groceries.
It is not uncommon to find items that you might buy regularly, but the store does not keep them in stock. Many items they carry are only on the shelves at all because the warehouse happened to put them on the truck. No rhyme or reason.
When they go out of stock, nobody knows why and has no idea if they will ever return. I'm not referring to seasonal items (obvious) nor special buys (they never mark as such), but rather products you might expect to always find. When that type of product shows up in this store it is often just a fluke.
There are quality issues with some products, especially, with produce. I can only guess that they get a special deal for buying certain things under distressed circumstances. For example, Aldi iceberg lettuce is never as good as everyone else's iceberg lettuce. By everyone else I mean Giant, Safeway, Harris Teeter, Wegman's, Walmart, Target, H-Mart, Lotte, Great Wall, Weis, and others.
Although the cleanliness factor of the store is good, this place gets my lowest score and my recommendation to avoid for the most part.
UPDATE 10-4-2019:
Ruder than ever. Last night was the second time this year when the checker was so rude I just left my groceries there and went over to the Giant on the other side of Quince Orchard Blvd instead.
This Aldi is very near where I live, so I keep going back to this desperation shopping destination. Some are very nice employees. But there are enough bad apples to ruin the whole bunch. I ask other people I know in the area what they think and, not surprisingly, they all have experiences with rude cashiers there, sometimes the exact same cashiers.
If I was driving to the store I would never bother with Aldi. It would appear that the culture itself there is toxic. I resort to this store now if I only need a few items and feel like walking up the street to get them.
My family was in the grocery business and before college I was being groomed for supermarket management as a fallback. We would never tolerate the disrespectful treatment of customers that seems to be encouraged at Aldi. They treat you as if it is a privilege for you to shop at Aldi, not that it is their privilege to have you as a customer.
There is another Aldi up in Germantown (bigger store with better prices for many of the exact same items) and I see employees up there who also work at the Quince Orchard Aldi. They too have very stressful cashiers (which is indicative of policy and management), and though I don't shop there very often (Walmart is right there too) I have not witnessed the same lack of customer service there as at Quince Orchard.
In all of the grocery stores where I shop Aldi is the slowest to open more registers when the checkout lines get long. It seems that the active cashiers are not supposed to call for backup until the shoppers have piled up to the point where they are visibly irritated. However they reason it, Aldi lets the lines get way too long before calling for another checkout line to be opened.
The nicest employees are always the ones stocking shelves and working in the back, the ones whose jobs have the least interaction with customers. Some of them are really nice, so they don't seem like they belong at Aldi at all. If you ask for their help they go out of their way to help you, with a smile.
Nevertheless, shopping at this Aldi is an unpleasant experience. If you enjoy grocery shopping, this store will cure you of that...
Read moreI’m very frustrated and disappointed by the quality at Aldi and how the employees don’t care about making up for inconveniencing customers because of poor quality-By that I mean MOLD on sour cream at time of opening the seal and having over a MONTH before it expires (4/17/2021)! Here is the story, I purchased my groceries over the weekend and today I was in the middle of cooking, when it was time to mix in the sour cream into the soup, I grabbed it out of the fridge popped the lid and opened the seal, only to see that there MOLD on it!!! This was an unopened sour cream! It hasn’t been sitting in my fridge opened for weeks or even being close the expiration date. I couldn’t believe it! So what I’m gonna do now?! I have 3 different meals in different stages cooking in the same time, and a pastry to waiting to be put in the oven. Oh and a large dog that I can’t leave in the house alone with all that food being exposed to his always hungry belly. So it’s pretty hectic in the kitchen. But I can’t finish without the sour cream so I juggle around secure everything so the dog can’t get to it while I dress up for the cold, get in the car, drive to Aldi, wait in line to talk to someone, who calls the manager who tells me “sorry grab another one”. Yeah I will grab another one of course but what about all my time, extra gas to go back again and all the inconvenience?! This is unacceptable!!! How is that even possible to sell sour cream with mold on it that is expiring in over a month? Well guess what?! As I was grabbing another one, the first one I touched had spills dried on it so I go off to the next one. I started walking away with my new sour cream, when something tells me, how about you check if this one is okay before you leave...so I pop the lid and see that the seal is not attached at one point!!! I’m like wow, thank god I checked probably this one has mold on it too which I’d see once I remove the seal. So I go to switch to another one, now I pop the lid on this right away, and I see immediately that this seal has a hole on it as well!!!! I couldn’t believe it! So I went to grab the another one and now this 4th one was sealed finally.... So please everyone be careful what you buy! And Aldi-you need to get it together because I’m off to file a claim with HHS at this point! The manager didn’t seem like she took this issue seriously at all but it is a big problem and a little sour cream caused me a huge inconvenience today and nobody cares about all that... I don’t know how to attach the pictures of this moldy sour cream but I have them in my phone and will try to find out how to do it. Also! Do not purchase Strawberries and blueberries here, I had to throw them all out-they were tasteless or better said,...
Read moreI recently visited the Aldi store in Gaithersburg, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations in many ways. One standout feature was their efficient cart system. Instead of needing a quarter to unlock a cart like at some other stores, Aldi's system allows you to simply insert a cart from the front, making it hassle-free and convenient. I found this small detail to be a great reflection of their customer-centric approach.
Moreover, the affordability of Aldi's products truly impressed me. From fresh produce to pantry staples and everything in between, their prices were significantly lower compared to other grocery stores. I was able to fill up my shopping cart with high-quality items without breaking the bank. The value for money at Aldi is truly exceptional, and it's a great place to shop for those looking to save on their grocery bills without compromising on quality. Staff was very helpful. Store was very clean and well kept.
Overall, my experience at the Aldi store in Gaithersburg was fantastic. The cart system made shopping a breeze, and the affordability of their products made me a loyal customer. I highly recommend checking out Aldi if you're in the area, as it's a store that truly understands the importance of providing quality products at affordable prices. Also parking has handicap and more than...
