The only saving grace of this place is the employees so thatâs what the extra star is for. Local management and all of the staff are great but they have no power to get equipment fixed or replaced, period. I know this club makes a lot of money, but they refuse to reinvest in this club for some reason. PG county had much nicer LAFâs. I have no idea if the people who wrote glowing 5 star reviews for this gym and the âstate of the artâ equipment were compensated somehow because I am honestly not sure we go to the same gym. Maybe theyâve never been to a nicer gym.If youâre looking for a new gym and can go elsewhere, I advise you to. If you come tour here, please come in the evening if thatâs when youâll be trying to work out, and pay close attention to the equipment youâll be paying for, and actually test the integrity of the equipment and notice most of it is rusty(see the other reviews mentioning this), loose parts, and many machines no longer get a proper/full range of motion and frequently break. I also joined like 1.5 years ago because there seemed to be adequate Stairmasters (8) only 5 have ever been in working order and the others barely work, they are extremely old and rickety and often break down as well. 99% of the time only 4 stairmasters work. If serious cardio on stairs is important to you, and you come after 5 pm, you will likely never get one. This gym is extremely crowded because itâs the only one left in this part of Gaithersburg , if I had to only come at evening/night I would never be able to get a workout in. If you want classes or pool, this is probably best for that because I donât think they care about anything else here. I hate leaving bad reviews but MANY of us here have complained extensively about broken equipment and the stairmasters,to no avail. I have belonged to Golds, Onelife, PF, and even YMCAâs and this is the worst gym Iâve ever belonged to in terms of what I pay per month versus what I get. I feel like Iâm getting screwed and am currently looking for a new gym but for right now with my schedule,I have to make this work. I went to the gym IN PERSON and I told the guy in the from that my sister, my nephew and my son are both out of town for the summer, so I wanted to put their membership on hold. I literally repeated myself 3 times. I went to my car, came back to confirm that that memberships for the 3 people have been put on hold and he said yes. A few weeks later my account was charged for the full balance with an exception of 1. I called for an explanation and I was actually met with an attitude. I was at work and I put it on speaker for my colleague to hear, cuz I wanted to make sure I wasnât tripping, because why are yall mad at me for YOUR mistake? At first they tried to call me a liar, that I never came in to put it on hold. I told them to check their camera system and they would see me standing there in the front talking to the guy. Then eventually they said ok, the system looks like I put 1 person on hold. Now why will I put 1 person on hold, when I know 3 people left for the summer and they all left TOGETHER! But Iâll come in and say put one on hold and leave the rest? Make it make sense. All they kept saying was âwell thereâs nothing we can do, we can just put it on hold moving forwardâ there was a lot they could have done, but chose not to. Why should I be charged for a service that was not rendered???? What I was expecting them to say is they wouldnât charge me for the next month, since they already charged me for this month for no reason, but thatâs not what happened. Then when I went in to cancel the whole membership. The lady manager there had an attitude. No apology for THEIR mistakes. They were acting like I did something wrong. Wonât bother canceling as itâs almost impossible without jumping through hoops but anyone considering signing up Iâd reconsider at least at this location.
1st star for being and gym and serving that purpose (though at least two of each of the cardio machines seem to be down or malfunctioning as of today 4/10/2025) 2nd star for being somewhat clean and sanitary compared to other LA Fitness gyms in MD.
Everything else is pretty lacking and subpar especially the young staff who lacks customer service skills and treat it like an after school hangout spot more than a job. But I guess that comes with the territory. My biggest grievance with this location is its inconsistent âhours of operationsâ or use of facilities. Today everyone in the sauna and showers were kicked out at 10:45pm by someone abruptly yelling that the facilities were closed. So if you were finishing a workout and trying to get a quick 5min shower before they âclosedâ you were S.O.L On other occasions you can use the sauna and showers until the minute they actually close. In my experience you can expect the showers and sauna to be closed anywhere from 5-20 mins before their posted closing hour. Seems like it depends on how much homework the staff has to get done that night. Definitely something management should look into. At the very least extend the courtesy to your guests by letting them know at the door what time you plan to close the amenities we pay to use so we can manage our time at the gym accordingly.
