Discovery Pyramid — Local services in Galveston

We visited on January 9th 2025. Keep in mind that the weather was terrible in Galveston this day. We went just to see the body exhibit. We very much enjoyed the exhibit.

I do not want to say anything bad about the Pyramid, we were there on a bad weather day and during the off season, there were not very many people there and my wife described it as a ghost town.

The Pyramid itself was clean and inviting. The bathrooms were clean and there were staff at the exhibit making sure everything was taken care of.

We had to walk up stairs and I didn't notice an elevator. I assume there is one but it was obvious to me. So I would double check accessibility access before you buy tickets if that is an issue for you.

We bought our tickets online ahead of time and I am glad we did. When we got there the box office was closed. This is what contributed to my wife calling the place (on the outside of the pyramid).

We used Lyft to travel from our hotel to the Discovery Pyramid. It was a little confusing where to ask for the drop off. So we ended up getting dropped off at the Moody Gardens Hotel and Convention Center and walked to the Pyramid. I am sure there is a closer place to get dropped off but it wasn't easily discoverable on the app.

I would recommend to the Moody Gardens staff to help designate a ride share drop off with Lyft and Uber. That would cause a lot less confusion.

Overall, it was a fun visit and affordable. We would like to go back one day and do the whole package. But in this day we only went for the Body...

I came here on Friday, November 27, 2020. I went to the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: An Interactive Adventure. Online, the show was said to be about 25 minutes. However, it actually only ended up being about 10 minutes in length. The 3D portion was cool and I liked how water was sprayed unexpectedly. But it was not interactive unfortunately. The description of the show stated that the audience would be able to help operate the ship and have conversations with the characters, but this did not happen. When I had come in 2015, there was a Spongebob show that was much more interactive. Nevertheless, there is an area where you wait for the show to begin which is decorated very nicely and has tanks of fish and cool areas to take pictures.

Upstairs was Skeletown that had cool skeletons of humans and animals. However, we did not spend more than 15 minutes in this exhibit. Overall, I would recommend that you check out this pyramid only if you have time after seeing the Rainforest and...

We've been here before, so I knew where to park but the GPS did NOT know and kept telling us to drive around to the back for some reason. Staff is incredibly helpful and available to answer questions. We arrived at 11 AM on a wed so no crowds. The body exhibit was cool but brief. Well worth it if you're into science, but I almost wish they had someone with a medical background and a laser pointer available to answer questions. my 3 year old found the interactive body screen incredibly amusing though it wasnt designed for kids it was hilarious watching her mess with it. Visited the gift shop and wish they had more anatomy merch -were weird like that, but bought everything they did have anyway. Guys - give us MORE enamel pins of cut up anatomy please, also puzzles dissectable plushies etc. Theres a market for it, I promise!
