I do not suggest going to Garden City Hospital. First the positives, they had caring nurses and the doctors did treat my husband for his illness. Now the reasons I would not suggest going to Garden City Hospital... My husband is Deaf and since he could not use the phone to order his meals they brought him mac and cheese everyday for lunch and dinner for the first 3 days! He is on a renal diet which requires protein and he is supposed to limit dairy. Tell me why Mac n cheese and peas was good for his renal diet. He was on a cardiac floor, and he could not have foods against the cardiac diet, but he does not have heart problems. They wouldn't allow him sugar either and he is not a diabetic. His kidneys dont work because of a birth defect, not because he has heart or sugar issues. His breakfast? A boiled egg with no salt, a slice of french toast with no syrup and rice crispy cereal with no sugar. Not once did they offer a sign language interpreter even though they knew he couldn't understand the doctors. Instead the doctors called me at work and talked to me. This is against the American with Disabilities Act. The lab results were extremely slow, nothing like when we have been in Cleveland Clinic or University of Michigan hospital. Blood test needed for gingivitis a dangerous infection would take 24 hours until we knew a result. He received a medication there for high phosphorus, when he told them he had been on it before and it didn't work they didn't care of listen. At dialysis they would try to take off too much too fast and his body couldn't handle it. He asked them to call his clinic and get his settings from there that he has been getting for 7 years!! They said, no their doctor gives the settings. But, he was having trouble and no one would listen. Finally he was medically cleared to leave the hospital. It had been a hard 5 days, but we made it!! The doctor told him at 11am, (well actually he told me by phone because my husband could not understand him), that he was going home, that he would have dialysis and go home. So, dialysis was over, I went to pick him up, but still waiting for the discharge papers. His dinner came, but we sent it back, we were going home and eating dinner with our children. But, at 5:33pm, the dictor came in and said, YOU ARE MEDICALLY DISCHARGED, BUT WE DIDN'T GET YOUR SCRIPT TO THE DISLYISIS CLINTON APPROVED IN TIME, SO YOU HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL SOCIAL WORK COMES BACK IN THE MORNING TO GO HOME. What? Does not need to be in the hospital, but because social work gets off at 5pm you can disrupt his life over paperwork? Then he proceeds to say that, "IF YOU LEAVE WE WON'T CALL IN YOUR ANTIBIOTICS TOMORROW"! So, basically he was held hostage against his will. They got another night's pay from insurance and I instead of a gun to his head they withheld his life saving antibiotics until the next day. WHAT KIND OF HOSPITAL IS THIS? Some shady stuff is going on there. My husband has been sick for a long time and never has anything like this...
Read moreThere appears to be lack of communication between the doctors and staff. A handful of nurses and aids were wonderful. However the rest are just ticking boxes off their to do list. They tried to keep my Mom in a bed rather than the bathroom when she was fully capable of walking. The wonderful therapy department had cleared her to walk with a walker during her 2nd day of stay. My mother has mild dementia and was very disoriented and experiencing delirium from being in the hospital. We asked for psych services to evaluate her mental status and review meds on day 2. Psych did not come see her until day 5 of being in the hospital. Staff said the regular psych doctor was on vacation. Not having sufficient back up in a hospital setting is incredibly unprofessional. The discharge experience was a nightmare. Kim, the case manager did not communicate with us. She was extremely rude and not helpful with the process. She technically discharged my Mom without having sent the paperwork necessary to my Mom's new assisted living facility. I found out my Mom was discharged from the Lead Nurse, Shannon. She stepped up and cleaned up Kim's mess and sent over the proper documents within a 30 min time frame so my Mom could have a proper discharge. Shannon is by far the BEST employee you have at your facility. She is compassionate, caring and understanding. She cares about people and gets things done the right way. You can tell her work is more than just a job to her. She is definitely your biggest asset at this hospital. Aside from her, our experience was poor. We never plan to come back to this hospital. I would never recommend it to anyone. This all comes from a woman who has worked in health care for 14 years and was there to advocate my Mom all 8 days she was in your care. I fear for those who stay in your hospital without that...
Read moreif I could give zero I would… This is the most unpleasant experience I’ve ever experienced in a hospital in my life.. everything was so awful nurses are so unprofessional. I brought my son in an ambulance because his fever was 104 and he passed out at home. and he had a strong headache and was throwing up. I couldn’t take him myself. That’s why I called the ambulance because it was an emergency and they took me to Garden City Hospital and we’re asked about the reason of the visit. They just said it is just a fever with a little laugh and the nurses there were looking to each other faces and talking shit in front of me and giving each other looks just because I brought him here for a fever they didn’t even mention the headache, which is something very important and should be taking seriously.. instead they just made me and my son feel really bad and sent us to the waiting room for two hours this is very unprofessional. After waiting for two hours, they finally took us to the back. It wasn’t even a room. It was just a chair and we were waiting there for another four hours. The doctor only came once and told us that they will run a flu test and he was gone for good. We were there for a long time. No one came. No one gave him anything. Not even an IV. All they gave him was ibuprofen no one checked his height or weight or blood pressure my son who is only seven was in so much pain and a strong headache, and no one even came to take his temperature again even when he was discharge. The only reason they discharge us because I finally went to them and said it’s either you discharge us or you treat him because we’re not here to sit and staring at each other faces. So their best option was to discharge us without even telling us the results or what’s going on with my son.. I am definitely reporting a claim and...
