24 Hour Fitness — Local services in Garden Grove

DISHONEST MANAGEMENT AND HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. About a month ago, my friend (who is an employee at a different 24 hour fitness) and I went to the pro shop to buy some protein bars that were on clearance. The front desk attendant, Bre, rang us up, and after finishing the transaction, we asked for our receipt, which she assumed we did not want. It took her and another worker (Sophie) over 5 mins to figure out how to reprint a receipt. Once we received the receipt, we reviewed the items.

The box of "clearance" protein bars we purchased turned out to be $19.99; however, at that time, brand new boxes of the same protein bars were already on sale for $19.99. When we asked Bre about why clearance protein bars cost the same as new protein bars, Bre looked confused. We asked if we could speak with a manager, and she called the manager with her cellphone, with an attitude. She seemed like she didn't want to help.

Ashley Wallis (Operations Manger at the time) was not working at the time, so their assistant manager Arthur came to help us. When we explained the situation again, he was just about as unhelpful as Bre. He went back and forth calculating the totals on the receipts. After what felt like 20 minutes, we asked him, "Don't you think it's unfair that an old box of clearance protein bars cost the same price as new box?". He replied, "You know how business are." Appalled by his answer, we asked when we could speak to the Operations Manager Ashley. Arthur told us she would be working the next day in the morning.

The next day, my friend and I went back to this 24 hour fitness to speak with Ashley. When we went to the front desk to speak with Ashley, the first thing she said was, "My associates informed me about last night and I am aware of what happened; there is nothing I can do." No greeting. She was just ready to shut us down and get us out of her way.

Ashley said that the Clearance discount was taken off of the "original" price, and not off of the "current" price. She said it was our duty to compare prices, be aware of the club's promotions, and "shop around" before making a purchase. She was basically saying that it was our fault that we bought a Clearance item for the same price as a New item. When you buy something off of the Clearance rack, you expect to get a deal, so who even considers "comparing prices"? Furthermore, nowhere in their clearance section did it say, "All clearance items are discounted from full retail price".

I brought up the fact that labeling the protein bars as "clearance" while selling them at the same price of New bars creates the idea that there is a deal and is a form of bait and switch (fraud). She did not care. My friend and I asked her, "if you were in our shoes, would you not see this as unfair?" Ashley rudely replied, "I would just take it as it is". After leaving us disbelief in what she had said, Ashley then stated, "I don't have time to be going back and forth with you two. There is nothing I can do." Ashley turned around and went on with her business.

The following weekend, my friend went to his home 24 hour fitness where he worked and reexplained everything that we experienced to his Assistant Manager. They were also appalled by the way they treated him (a 24 hour employee) and myself. His Assistant Manager even went as far as to offer my friend store credit from their own store.

Two weeks passed and the Garden Grove 24 hour fitness finally received a new general manager (Binh Nguyen) and assistant general manager (Laurlee Antiporta). I asked my friend to email these two directly about our horrendous customer service experience with Ashley, Arthur and Bre. It has now been over a week, and my friend has not received any reply from Binh or Laurlee. Clearly the management of this gym is not trained and does not possess customer service skills. By allowing employees with poor attitudes and horrible customer service skills to run this gym, this just shows that this club does not care about its members...

BUT BEFORE I GET INTO IT AT FOOTHILL RANCH 24HRS GYM , G.M. SCOTT IS THE ONLY ONE THAT REALLY CARES FOR ALL MEMBERS AND I ALWAYS SAY THANK YOU FOR LOOKING OUT FOR ME......

ya i bet the handicap equipment most likely the same issue and not A.D. A. compliance. So that means I can't go there. Plus you guys don't see the area where it's located???? So it's in a Ghetto and for Ghetto people. what everybody is talking about happens to most gyms. L.A. fitness . Crunch , etc. so 24hrs fitness is the same deal . once a equipment finally is not functional it will never be fixed. I think these gyms wait until the a certain amount of equipment is depleted then that gym will do something ... Think about how much does one member pay to be one? pennies . So I guess they rely on more member to join as it's seasonal . Watch , January everybody new years resolution to lose weight, etc. then it fades away. I have access to all 24 gyms for that reason. I went to the 24hour gym at Pico up in L.A. during the olympics as 24hrs supports big time the special olympics. First time there and it's an very old building as I came in checked in with my wheel chair and my shower towel draped over my gear. the staff was focus on the T.v. . they saw me didn't greet me. so after working out, then hit the showers and all the way in the back was the only one A.D.A. and there was a little paper sign "out of order' and anyone with eyes can tell its been like four years. So I used a regular shower across . there was place to hang my stuff so everything was on my wheel chair as I was using my chair to hop on one leg is what I have. everything got wet as I showered then hopped back to the A.D.A shower and almost slipped on my ass. my clean clothes was wet. normal member would be so pissed off and bring the anger to the front counter. So as i went to the front counter and asked who is the General Manager and I could tell right away from their reaction, nobody wanted to respond as I paused and waited for a name and said bill ... then I mentioned the A.D.A shower and did the staff give a crap??? I even told all of them they saw my come in and I bet none of them know I need to use that A.D.A. or if it's out of order. Why because I bet none of the males use that nasty gym. just work there. I still notice I was interrupting them from watching the olympics. So I got a little louder and mentioned 24hrs advertise big time with big colorful poster and even to the Media they support special olympics but not A.D.A. 24hrs members. And it's a federal lawsuit but if you bring it up you might as well kiss your membership good bye and sue 24hrs and maybe end up owning one the of the gyms. or hey maybe own a 24hrs that is only A.D.A. in one location? Do you think all A.D.A. 24hrs member will drive to that one place????? no. I deal with this everywhere and it's not just the 24hrs. people don't give a dam because it's not a major concern to operate a business just whip up the codes for A.D. A. and is it really functional for me to use. So I'm going to drop messages to the G.M.'s to use for example if the showers are clean and really functional and use my wheelchair and don't stand up on two legs and see how nasty the walls are how easy how lously they got away to have it to A.D.A. Codes. Then I hope they will realize how difficult to use the whole facility for me . There is only one 24hrs gym at foothill ranch that the G.M. really care and his name is Scott and maintenance staff member are really are on top of it. even after I mention what I come at other gyms. It seems like I have to call and check in to see what is not working for me. as I can't use that gym just like the rest of the members to just to use it life a regular members. yes , Foothill Ranch , G.M. Scott and I always thank him for all the members that come there is FOR ANYONE TO ENJOY...

WOW. TL;DR - This is a sad, tired location. Here we go...

This is one of the most poorly maintained 24 Hour locations I've visited. The biggest deterrent is how filthy everything is. GYMS SHOULD BE CLEAN! Health and safety of your members and guests is #1 priority. There is a LOT of dust on just about every piece of equipment and bits of trash/paper towel around them. Paper towels and hand sanitizer stations were not refilled. Soap was out, toilet paper was out. There shouldn't be grime/buildup around the hand dryers. Easy stuff that any other gym handles with a quick check. I think I saw only like two staff members other than the trainers, so that's why nothing is as clean as it should be. Back to the workout floor...

The equipment has clearly seen better days. Aside from a couple fairly new-ish looking squat racks, much of the weight machines and benches are... old. Which is fine if maintained, but if the gym isn't clean, you bet maintenance isn't handled well. Some machines are missing parts that make them unsafe, or compromise the motion. Replace things you can't get parts for! The lock pin on a couple 5-lb weight increments (leg extension, and something else, if I recall correctly) slip, and drop the weight mid-rep. A few benches have loose pads, or are not properly bolted to the floor. Half the weight plates are worn out - rubber is cracked/missing. Everything needs to be seriously tightened up.

Things that are missing: Proper 35-lb EZ curl olympic bars to put plates on. If I have no idea how much that sad, skinny thing weighs, neither does anyone else. There are TWO(?!?!?) 5-lb plates in the entire gym that fit the olympic bars... Get more of those, and some more 10-lb plates while you're at it. The barbell rack is clearly not a complete set for either EZ curl or straight bars.

This could be a decent gym, but it's gonna take the owner investing a bit of money to get it up to snuff with other locations. It's in a good location, so there is no excuse for them to provide not even a...
