The pictures on their site dont do it justice! This is hands down probably the best hobby store in all of So Cal! I live the in San Diego and all the hobby stores here have folded over the years forcing me to go north in search of other hobby stores. I'm a huge plastic model junky, mostly 1:24-1:25 scale cars & trucks. Lately I've been having a hard time finding semi-truck 1:24-1:25 scale plastic models so I decided to drive to Orange Couny and found this little gem. As soon as you walk in you see a huge array of assorted paints which is bad ass by itself! Than they have isles of gaming stuff, not really my thing, and hoards of Gundam stuff. I than found my isle, one of the largest 1:24-1:25 scale plastic semi-truck models (Tamiya, Italeri, Hasewaga, Fujimi, Aoshima and of course Revell just to name a few). And they're the good models, stuff I'd only ever seen online! I like building the Italeri trucks specifically Scania, Mann, Mercedes-Benz brands, the European style trucks and could not believe the variety they had, I literally got a boner when I seen their products! Prices are a little on the high retail side but given their enormous variety, you can look the other way on the things you wouldn't want to wait to have shipped via online purchase. Also a huge selection of plastic aircraft and military models (all scales). The staff is very friendly and helpful which you normally don't see at hobby stores. I actually had someone come up to me while I was looking for a certain color of paint and ask what color I was looking for, than proceeded to find it for me. I had my wife carrying the 5 different models I was buying so I could continue to look at a staff member came up to her and brought her a basket and put them in the basket for her......Wow!!! I highly recommend this hobby shop.....hands down! I will be making the 80 mile commute from La Mesa to Garden Grove a few times a week to make my hobby purchases for now on, its that impressive. Also, if they don't have it in the store, they can order it for you if you don't know how to go online and look yourself.
Check the place out...
Read moreCame here after reading reviews of a hobby store that suggested to come here instead (hint: its down the street and sells Gundams too) and HOLY COW. Im so glad we did!!
Huge store full of not just Gundam model kits but a varied selection of cards, DND models, and painting supplies! The staff was super friendly and even though it was a little messy on their sale table they had a really good selection of just about everything. They even had some really cool military kits and some niche Kasegawa kits I had never seen in person before. There's also other modeling items that other hobbyists might want like tools, brushes, model vegetation, and even a model kit with UMBRELLAS. The variation is really cool and reminded me of the old hobby stores from the 90s that I spent my childhood in, just a lot of a LOT. Overheard a lot of folks talking all about their hobbies all throughout the store and the guys working the counter were carrying on just as well so even if you dont know a lot about this stuff, trust me, the staff definitely does.
They even offer to buy kits and other items you no longer want according to the signage and they even sell other peoples works (like a custom painted gundam figure! Im sad i didnt get a photo though :c) definitely coming here again the next time my fiance and i are in town. Thanks for the cool experience...
Read moreI've been going to brookhurst hobbies since the early 90's. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. The store has the best selection of goods, tools and paints. Lastly the game room is the best gaming area I have ever been to.
As to Carlos Puebla's review, I was present on the day of the incident and he left quite a bit of the facts unsaid.
First off, the game room has a meager fee to offset the costs for high quality ammenities and a few of Carlos Pueblas friends were attempting to use the facilities without paying the fee.
Secondly the club has a no outside food policy, and some of these persons who were not paying the fee brought outside food, and when confronted by one of the staff members began to verbally argue and harass the staff member.
I dont know or care about writing nicknames on name tags, but I do know Carlos Pueblas group was asked to leave due to refusal to pay the fee, bringing outside food in, and harrassment of the facility staff members.
The Brookhurst Hobbies is an inclusive environment were everyone is encouraged and welcomed, provided they abide by the club rules and maintain the friendly...
