We started buying from Buckeye Valley Beef Coop about 4 months ago. We started small as a test. We could immediately taste the difference with the beef from what we buy at the chain grocery stores here in Columbus, Ohio. The first steak we ate was a ribeye. My wife and I both looked at each other after our first piece. I said to her "this is how steak tasted when I was young". The second test was plain old hamburger but fried in a cast iron skillet with plenty of butter. We ate the burgers with no buns and very little garnishments. One bite and you knew it was a cut above. We have been steadily buying larger quantities of our preferred cuts. We stick with mostly the ground beef, T-bones, and Porterhouse cuts; although, we did buy a couple of the big Tomahawk steaks. Our starter pack included some cuts we would normally not buy but those cuts have been noticeably better than what we have purchased at the grocery stores. Really, everything has been excellent. The service is good. On two occasions there were minor quantity issues. Both times, someone from the coop called us directly to resolve it. I like that they use 100% recyclable material for the shipping container. We know we pay more but we feel it is better to pay more for significantly better meat than to pay less for just OK meat. I have spoken at length with one of the coop owners. These folks really care about the quality of the meat more than putting out large quantities. It's not "organic" which for meat, is, I think, a bit of a marketing label. Organic is important to us for fruits and vegetables (items that can get heavily sprayed with chemicals). For beef, the important thing for us is what they feed the cows, how they are cared for, and the standards maintained for what goes to market and what doesn't. These folks know what they are doing. I think the proof is in the product and, believe me, you can really taste it. Just do yourself a favor and don't overcook good meat. For us, this is...
Read moreWonderful business and people. I have been buying freezer beef from Buckeye for about 4 years and won't go anywhere else. The closest pick up point for me is about 1 hours and 15 mins away and it is totally worth the drive. The quality of beef is outstanding and when compared to store bought beef, Buckeye is the clear winner. Visually Buckeye beef is more red and has much more marbling than what I see in my local Kroger. The processor that Buckeye uses is amazing too! I always speak with Kayla and she is so knowledgeable and friendly! They also vacuum seal their meat which I prefer to just wrapping in butcher paper. Life long customer here... at least until we get land that allows us to raise...
Read moreThe easy answer is the beef is AMAZING. SO MUCH BETTER than anything you can get at the store. The staff is super responsive, the cost is better than you will pay in the store over all, especially for the steaks and why wouldn't you support local farmers and eat better for you BEEF! I am a meat eater and this stuff is amazing. Going to the farm to pick up, there are many different options to pick up your beef, was super fun, especially to see the cows just laying around in a grass pasture not some horrible feed lot. YOU WILL NOT BE...
