I would warn against anyone who is thinking of buying, building, or renovating a home in Glendale Heights. It feels like the mob is involved with the inspectors office after selling my home after living in the city for 5 years, and working with the Director of Community Development (Joanne Kalchbrenner) the Assistant Director of Community Development (Tom Bialas).
We bought the home from a flipper who renovated it after purchasing the home as a foreclosure. During our ownership we made changes to the finishes (painting walls and cabinets, floors, and installed a dishwasher) but did not do anything major.
We went to sell our home this month, and city inspectors informed us that we were in trouble because we did not secure permits for the major renovations. WE NEVER MADE THESE CHANGES AS THEY WERE DONE BY THE FLIPPER WE BOUGHT THE HOME FROM!
We even have the MLS listing for the past 3 sales of the home proving we never made these changes, but no one wants to see this documentation.
They forced us to pay for pernits on work that we did not do, and even had to pay to expedite the reinspection process. After all is said and done we had to pay $9,000 to correct issues on work that was done by the prior owner.
It seems that they issued transfer stamps to the flipper we bought from without completing an inspection on his work as we never saw the inspection results or received escrow money for the repairs like we should have.
I would suggest that avoid this city and their inspection office and move to another city in dupage county. It just is...
Read moreGDH motto is "A proud and Progressive village for all people." There is no downtown. Property taxes are indeed the highest in DuPage county. Parkway landscaping and easement areas are poorly maintained or just neglected. Parks are small and sparse. Many properties are rented and inhabited by multiple families, some properties are neglected and unsightly which lowers value of surrounding properties. There are quite a few empty store fronts. The police and fire departments are well funded and have a lot of high tech vehicles and tools. Mayor/president Chodri Ma Khokhar can barely speak or understand English yet won the so called election by 2 votes. Apparently longtime incumbent Linda Jackson and another village president candidate, Ed Pope, were kicked off the ballot by the Illinois Supreme Court. The court also ordered that any votes cast for Jackson not be reported. I guess that is what they mean by...
Read moreI lived in Glendale Heights for 15 years and moving the past couple of months has been very stressful. The village made me pay for unnessary permits intailing for work around the house that hadn't been done. Mulitple inspecters claimed the house had these works done that haven't been done. I have spent over $500 in permit fees for things I haven't done. Everytime an inspector came to my house, they were different and they always point out different things that cause me to pay more everytime. Furthermore, the village of Glendale Heights gave me a hassle in obtaining all these permits which caused me to waste more time and money. I personaly would never come back and I would never wish anyone would live there either. If I had to give this 0...
