Our granddaughter wrestles for her high school and we expected her to make state this year and scheduled time off to accomodate attending. However, she injured her knee and we quickly booked the Cornerstone. ||First amazing thing I noticed is that when we arrived after dark, their were lights on for us which was nice because it had snowed prior to our arrival and their was a snow shovel if we needed...which my grandson enjoyed!||||We had 4 teens and immediately they all decided where to sleep, one took the owls nest above the mud laundry room (yes, there is a washer and dryer if you need it!), the 2 girls took the room above the kitchen and the youngest took the futon by the fireplace.||Water from the tap is ice cold and tastes so pure. The shower was amazing and plenty of hot water. The kids got outside, walked the property, hubby and I walked to the main entrance of Mt. Rainier through fresh snow, the kids loved sitting in the hot tub with snow falling on them from the tree's above, we saw a Doe with her fawn, we shoveled snow and had fun doing so!||We spent time watching movies together without cell phones, telling stories, the kids would retrieve upstairs at night to watch television while the old folks went to bed and we never heard a peep.||||If you get the fire nice and hot, trust me, it warms upstairs nicely. Keep the bathroom door open when not in use and it stays toasty not to mention they have extra blankets for your use!||Don't worry about the high cabinets, there is a stool in the broom closet to help you reach and plenty of dishes, glassware, my treasure was finding they had a cheese grater!||||First thing the kids did was fix hot chocolate and rave about the old movies!||||If you love old things, this cabin has so many cool things it would take you days to catch them all...||1- Get to warm in the living room the windows are old and held open by a hook on the ceiling, I want to go back in the summer just to do that!||2- There is a real screen door and Adirondack chairs on the deck so you can sit and watch the snow plow do its job!||3- The fireplace mantle is amazing, but take a seriously close look at the railings outside, what details!||4- I have physical health issues, but was so happy hubby nudged me to walk the half mile to the main entrance to the park...so many things to see walking you miss driving!||5-I brought salad fixings and forgot dressing...no worries, there was a bottle in the fridge along with salsa, ketchup, mustard and don't forget to look in the cabinet under the microwave for flour, spices, etc.||||The owners care about this cabin and it shows in all the details and the bed in the master bedroom? Ohhhh, I could have stayed in it all day it is so comfortable.||||Thank you for allowing us to make memories, hope to do this again next year and...
Read moreWe got the family all gathered up and excited to go away! It was so sad that our expectations weren’t met after spending so much money. The heater in the living room didn’t work, we were able to use the fireplace to keep warm, but a hassle to keep up on during the night. As another review mentioned, they state that it comfortably fits 8 people. There aren’t enough coffee cups or dishes for 8. The cabin is very small and hard to have 8 people with one bathroom. The bathroom thing was more of our optimism, not the cabin owner’s fault, just a warning that it doesn’t work well! They leave you a minimal amount of toilet paper and trash bags to last for your stay. We ran out of both. With all the money you pay, it seems like they would overstock those items. I didn’t spend so much on a cabin to steal extra toilet paper and trash bags. That’s the only reason I can think of as to why they wouldn’t put extra (or even enough for the stay). The dryer also didn’t work. We had to run it 3 times for the clothes to dry. It said all the beds had heated blankets which wasn’t true. Only one did. The futon is not comfortable for sleeping. The power went out and they didn’t have batteries in the lantern. They had one candlebra under the sink. These little things added up and made our stay less than enjoyable. Not to mention when we left, they made up reasons to charge us extra money. Really disappointed and would not recommend staying. The only positive thing is the hot tub and I’m sure you can find that somewhere else....
Read moreI have been bringing my family to these cabins almost yearly since 2006, anytime of year there are amazing sights to behold. In winter, it's a wonderland, everything is covered in a fluffy white blanket. Watching the snow flurry about while in the hot tub is really something else. In the spring everything turns green and the baby animals begin frolicking about and the kids love to watch the fawns prancing around, showing off their spots. The summer comes, and that's when the buffet starts. You can make your way up the trails and find salmon berries, blue and red huckle berries, or find one of the many lakes or streams around and pull up a big fat trout, kokanee, bass, perch or cat fish. The Autumn turns the landscape into a picturesque natural artwork, with chantrelle and many other delectable mushrooms popping up everywhere. But the real magic happens inside the cabin, with wonderful pillow top beds, and no pesky phones or computer to distract the kids, it's very personal and that can be tough to find in the city. The first day is kind of a system shock for everyone getting used to not being bombarded by the outside world, but by the second day, everyone becomes much closer after the tensions melt away into beds. The only real drawback i can think of is the store next to the mountain tends to be closed so you may have to drive back to Ashford...
