Loose Spokes Bicycle Shop — Local services in Grand Haven

My husband and I visited Loose Spokes early this week to purchase new helmets and inquire about a child’s seat for my bike. The two employees were awesome and immediately helped us fit helmets for our kids and offered to order a child seat for us. We were told they would call us in 2-3 days when the seat arrived and that we could pay when it was in. We purchased 3 helmets that day.We hadn’t heard anything by Friday, so my husband left a voicemail to inquire about the seat and ask a question about hitch adapters. Today (Saturday) we received a call back and were informed that the seat ordered for us was sold to another customer. At first my husband was told that another customer was pestering them about a seat, so they sold it to him. Later we were told it was sold because we didn’t pre-pay for it, despite specifically being told earlier this week that we can pay when they install it and never having gotten a call that it was in. Today we were told that ordering another would take two weeks.

Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. The customer service difference from earlier this week and today is vast. With two young kids, we will have a lot of biking needs in the years to come. Our initial visit was so great, and reminded us a lot of a shop we loved in another state. We are absolutely understanding if there was a misunderstanding. But it sounded like the seat was intentionally sold to someone else, and there was very little understanding when my husband called today. Jack and his team of expert staff are truly Specialized at their craft--all things bicycling! They are warm, friendly, good people. Salt of the earth. I have never once had a bad experience at this fine establishment. I have been a loyal customer since 2010 and will be for life. Prices are fair, service is exceptional, and their knowledge of ANY problem mechanical, comfort/bike fit, training, questions on apparel for the 4 seasons here in Michigan is outstanding. Their group rides are amazing, safe and fun. No one gets left behind. I send all my friends and family to Jack and Christian. They are simply amazing. I do not believe what the critics are saying on these reviews. Seems they are just looking to complain and it's obvious that they never really wanted to deal with the issue because they didn't go to Jack and express their concern directly. I know Jack. If there is a complaint or concern he will work tirelessly to make it right.

Since completing the bicycle repair and maintenance classes with you, I have saved money, grown more confident in my own ability, and become a more knowledgeable cyclist. My kids are now learning from me how to tune up and maintain their own bikes...

!Viva le Tour! AND Long Live Loose...

Christian has been instrumental in me getting back into shape after a near fatal accident. He’s helped keep my bikes in tip top shape and fixed everything I break in a super timely fashion. I nearly died on May 14th 2022, in hospital bed for 10 weeks. Learned how to walk again in July, discharged from physical therapy in December 20th with a fitness level of 0. Started riding my bike on Dec 20th. Trained for a 50 mile ride, rode that on May 20th 2023. Trained for a 100k ride, rode that on July 6th, training for a 100mi ride on Sept 23rd. Around December my FTP was 77 today it is 255(edited after a new accurate trainer). Christian and the guys at Loose spoke have helped me become faster than I ever was pre accident. I trust my bikes because I trust the guys working on them. I worked with Christian to tune my bike up and repair the brakes. He gave me several options to choose from to repair the brakes and I decided to do an upgrade. The bike rolls silently now and the new brakes feel and stop 10,000x better. Both of my bikes have been upgraded to better components and it was cost effective even for both my bikes being circa 2013. On top of being satisfied with the work it was a great experience all around. They were happy to service and appreciated my older bikes.
