My birthday was on Sunday, May 9th; today is Wednesday, May 12th; I worked a 12-hour shift and needed to buy groceries to go home and sleep quickly to work another 12-hour shift. Your employees at the Grandville Meijer, the on-duty manager Chase, explained to me that I could not purchase my Truly (alcoholic) beverages because my license is expired. I explained to him that I am scheduled to get my license renewed, and I provided him with the email from the State of Michigan confirming my appointment; however, due to Covid, they were not able to schedule till June 17th. He questioned why didn't I renew online; I explained to him that I could not because the wonderful State of Michigan required me to physically come in to renew my license because I have renewed by mail for the past 20+ years. He said if I had a passport, I could use that. Luckily I do have a passport. So I drove home and back and provided them with a passport, and then they allowed me to purchase the same items that I could not with a driver's license that expired 3 days ago. I want a reasonable explanation on why your managers do not have the ability to make a reasonable judgment given the fact that it was expired only 3 days and I had an email showing that I made the appointment to renew my license and allow the purchase; or why you have not made arrangements with the State of Michigan to accommodate these situations. I make a concerted effort to support my Michigan-based retailer instead of Trader Joe's or the soon coming Whole Foods; why are you making it hard for your customers to support you? I called Meijer Corporate, and I will be registering a complaint because how many of your customers actually have a passport to produce at a moment's notice so they can buy groceries?
The action taken by their on-duty manager was a classist maneuver, and I will not make another purchase at the Meijer establishment ever until I receive an appropriate apology. I spend a considerate portion of my grocery budget at Meijer. I do not live in a grocery desert; I have choices. I hope your company will make a choice and offer an explanation on why a passport was acceptable; for the same person that had an expired ID, due to no fault of their own, to make this purchase. They did not scan my passport, so what the overriding factor that pushed through this sale? The manager wanted to be rude, and he wanted to "put me in my place." How many of your regular everyday working customers affected by Covid have a valid Passport at the ready to produce so they can make their...
Read moreI have been to this Meijer location for decades now and I can say that this store isn’t what it used to be. I came across a few employees of this location looking very tired and depressed and it hurts me to see these individuals in a workplace that doesn’t make them feel happy or useful. I’ve had issues in the past regarding the self checkouts as these machines have had their issues over the years and I can tell some of the employees don’t get enough time to be trained to know how these machines work. Now I’m not saying they don’t know what they’re doing because it’d take me a while to get used to this new technology but they seem stressed to hurry the issue to avoid an impatient customer and I believe this Meijer really needs to work on treating their employees with more respect. I don’t understand what they treat them with so much disrespect and expect their staff to stay which brings me to my next concern, the amount of staff. The last time I was here there weren’t that many cashiers nor were there many stock people around to help customers with finding certain products. I really hope this location gives their employees the respect and equality they deserve so they can have enough staff in a day. My final concern is the management that makes this location difficult to return to. I’ve heard from various employees that management is the biggest problem in this location and if this has become such a problem that employees won’t return to work then I believe replacement of management should be an option. I spoke with a manager that was around regarding an item I had trouble finding and afterwards I heard him mumble under his breath a “geriatric idiot”. Now I don’t have the best hearing but hearing such foul language from a member of management was appalling and I hope this Rob or Ron fellow learns that actions have consequences. I highly advise for those who visit this location look elsewhere for a grocery store option because the Meijer I once loved going to is now a terrible excuse for a grocery store. Do better...
Read moreIdeal place to go when you need groceries and other household, clothing, health and beauty supplies and more. I however NEVER use the pharmacy except for my dogs medicine (I get it the cheapest there using goodrx app) I went with my neighbor who needed her meds filled and had hers called in the prior day. I on the other hand had only had my dogs called in earlier that day and was told it would be a 2 hour wait!! My neighbor went to pick hers up before we started shopping and was told one of hers still wasn't finished even though it was called in the prior day! The gal said she would put a rush on it, no problem as we were just starting out grocery shopping. Once we finished our shopping and took everything out to the car we hit the drive thru to pick everything up, it had been well over 2 hours since we first went to the pharmacy. Well mine was ready but hers, that had supposedly been put thru as a rush, was NOT ready 2+ hours later! Because I was doing goodrx I was told it would take another 15 minutes or more! (Walgreens literally takes 2-3 mins to put the goodRX thru) She made me write down the numbers of the good RX coupon for each of my dogs medications and then come back in 15+ mins. I have never done that at any other pharmacy! I show them the coupon and they do the rest in just a couple of mins. We went thru a drive thru for a quick lunch that we ate while waiting at the pharmacy drive thru yet again. I had told my friend I never get meds at Meijer because with ANY narcotics they always make you wait 1+ hours, standard procedure is what I was told yet every other pharmacy is done in 10-20 mins tops. Well after all the mess we went thru that day she also goes elsewhere for her meds!! Come on Meijer and get your stuff together! Your literally losing a lot...
