Highland Hills is one of the best public courses in northern Colorado. Year after year it continues to provide a challenging and enjoyable test of golf. Could the bunkers be raked more often? Could weeds be pulled? Could areas be marked more clearly? Yes. But it’s public, so some of that is expected. Overall, Greeley is fortunate to have a public course of this quality.
Pace of play, however, has always been an issue. Weekend rounds often stretch past five hours. This could be improved with a proper ranger, not just a volunteer driving laps, and a starter who manages groups effectively. Many nearby courses do this well, and it makes a noticeable difference. Without that oversight, it can be frustrating round.
Staffing is another weakness. Aside from a few employees, the staff often feels untrained or motivated more by free golf than by providing a good experience. Evening golfers, in particular, are often rushed so staff can close early. If I pay for my round, I should be able to finish without feeling rushed off the course.
The driving range is one of the worst in our area, which is disappointing given the caliber of the course. For much of the year, the grass tee boxes are bare dirt and sand, which makes them unpleasant to hit from. Mats are an improvement, but the current range setup is outdated and limited. Range balls are another problem. In any given bucket, 10 to 20 percent are cracked, broken, or deformed, making them unusable. I also don't mind staff collecting baskets, but driving a cart onto the tee line while people are hitting is something I haven’t seen at other courses. The quality of the range does not match the price.
Since Covid, golf has grown in popularity across the country, and both Greeley courses are busier than ever which is exciting. We are lucky to have so many courses up north to play and despite a few drawbacks, this is certainly a good course if you...
Read moreI am proud to call Highland Hills my home course! Such fun golf holes that never get old to me! This course has the right level of challenge, and doesn't have all that many places to lose golf balls if you hit an errant shot - you can usually find it. The grounds crew does a great job of keeping this course looking, and playing great! I specifically like the Men's Club at this course! There are the best group of guys who play and hang out at the course! The Men's Club is pretty competitive, but I don't ever feel like I can't have a great time, which is what I'm there for in the first place! I also really like the member and invite tournaments which are held at Highland Hills - they are always fun and competitive! Lastly, what's a good course without a great pro? The PGA Pro at Highland Hills, Chris Colling, does a great job at the course! Chris gets along with everyone, and it wouldn't be the same course without him! If you're looking for a great place to play golf, great people to play with, and a relaxing atmosphere; I highly recommend Highland Hills Golf Course for your next...
Read moreAnyone looking for a free round of golf (might not be 18, or 9) this is your course. Feel welcomed to park in the parking lot and jump on hole 13 right next to the driving range if you please! Two elderly men walked straight from the parking lot onto the 13th tee box and jumped in front of our group. The Ranger happened to be driving by so we flagged him down and claims they are employees and they are allow to jump on whenever and wherever they please. Called the proshop and they brushed it off as if this happens all the time! Now we get to play behind 2 walkers. What kind of course allows this? If younger people were to do the same I seriously question if the pro shop would call greeley PD? Whether they are employees or not, they should always be held to the same standard as the general public! I will forever bad mouth highland hills golf course to every golfer I know or come in contact with for the double standard and lack of professionalism! Wish there was an option to...
