Experienced racism and discrimination) I'm kind of new to Meijers started going since Thanksgiving last year. I have been there about 4/5 times now. Up to this point I've had a pleasant experience, they have great deals with the good variety. Long story short I had quite a few items in my car that were pretty big so I went to self checkout and was helped by the lady running the area. She was very helpful by the way. Even put pink stickers on the bigger items of course for security purposes which I was all for. As I'm walking out I get stopped by a Caucasian male with a big attitude demanding to see my receipt. I handle my receipt with no problem, he snatched it out of my hands aggressively & looked it over and was satisfied that he saw every item in my cart on the receipt. Then it dawns on me there's lots of people walking past him with cartfuls and he's not asking any of them for a receipt nor did he ask my sister who I was with that looks totally opposite to me she has green eyes and white skin where I have dark skin and dark brown eyes ( I look very indigenous) I feel very singled out! He totally racially profiled me! It really sucks because I am so bothered! I hold two jobs and everything I had in my car was literally clearance items. It was very embarrassing to have everyone just look at me like I was some type of crook! Very unprofessional and unacceptable!!! I asked a few other shoppers if they were ever asked for the receipts before and they all said no. Including my sister who loves the store and was the one who introduced me. Another thing that bothered me is even if you were going to ask for my receipt why couldn't you do it politely? Everyone else was greeted and wish farewell politely. (Sorry that my skin is not as light as yours) I really feel heartbroken this was truly an ugly...
Read moreI shop here often, and I even pass up Fresh Thyme and Sendik’s to come to this location. Unfortunately, my shopping experience here has not been very pleasant. Every time I buy fresh food items, I get home and find that something is wrong either the items aren’t as fresh as they appeared in the store, or they’re damaged. For example, I recently bought a large bag of Lay’s chips, and when I got home, I found it has huge tear in the bag on the back side, my chips were stale. I returned to the store, and this time I picked up ground turkey on Thursday, 8/21, only to discover it expired just two days later on 8/23. Worse, it had a huge dent and an opening on the bottom that I hadn’t noticed instore. The problem is that I come here expecting to get what I pay for fresh, quality items that are ready to eat. Instead, there’s always an issue, and it’s incredibly frustrating. I work hard for my money, and I expect the employees at this location to take pride in checking the quality and freshness of the products on the shelves. How do I know if that turkey had been left out and reached unsafe temperatures before I bought it? I ended up freezing it, but I won’t take any chances eating it now. I also have several other items that I don’t even feel like returning they’re just going to waste.I won’t be shopping here any longer. The existing reviews are already disappointing, and now I see I’m not alone. Many other customers are experiencing the same issues. Whoever is managing this location needs to do better or step aside. Read moreGo to a different grocery store... This location is by far the worst, and this review is all based on the design of the checkouts. There are only 2 ways to check out: by checking yourself (with 12 items or less) or by way of a cashier that has to also poorly bag your groceries while checking you out. This leads to 2 major problems - horribly slow moving lines that get bogged down to the Nth degree by any need of a supervisor, and incredibly long lines to check yourself out which is exasperated by customers checking out more than 12 items. The design of the cashier bagging carousel is the worst idea in supermarket history as it takes away their ability to quickly check out your groceries and their ability to speed up the process by allowing a customer to bag their own items. All of this coupled with the decrease of working bodies (presumably to drive up profitability by way of having less bodies sucking up wages) and you have the blueprint for a terrible experience.
Edit, 2 years later. This store is garbage. Do not waste your time. From the customer service department closing early to minimal staff for checkout to employees forgetting to give your groceries, I'm 100% never coming back to this store. It does not matter that it is the closest, or if prices are good, the company is...
