I really wish I could rate this place better, because I appreciate the fact that they are a local game store basically in the middle of nowhere, and it's better than nothing. But better than nothing in reality is not all that great. A tiny selection of singles, pricier than average TCG sealed product (wildly so in some cases. When Meijer is cheaper, there's a problem), a moderate but aged and basic board game collection, comics, d&d stuff, and a handful of minis and paints. Not bad, but poorly curated and beset by a sense of complacency. Scheduled and regular events like FNM and such are run fairly well and are regularly attended, but drop in play seems to be a sysiphean task. Over the past 4 months I have tried to drop in for board games, Lorcana, and commander on 9 or 10 separate occasions but have yet to actually be able to play anything because of myriad reasons, including being the only person who showed up, the store randomly being closed, or being treated with polite but obvious neglect from the regular clique such that you just never find a game.

Which is a shame, because it would be nice to not have to drive all the way to cedar or Ionia or Grand Rapids to feel... I mean, heck, welcomed would be nice, but at this point I'll settle just for...

A wonderful store with really kind, conscientious owners and fans. We went in as a family to find a game to play with our 11 yo. Rob and Tim took the time to show us lots of different options for different playing methodologies. These folks know their stuff! They offered to walk us through the game so we would best understand how to play it and get more enjoyment from the start. For reference, we purchased an "escape room" game and one about sherlock holmes. Both have been a ton of fun and given us something other than screen time at night. Excelsior has a huge selection of comics and board games in addition to multiple trading card games and miniature games like warhammer. The staff is amazing and do their best to help you find what you are looking for. If there are any gaming products you can't find in the store, they may be able to get it in by request if available.
