Called and talked to Tom about a potential repair on my Fishman mini acoustic amp. I mentioned to him to please let me know what the anticipated cost estimate would be in case I decided to just purchase one new for $300. I had read previous reviews so I was hesitant and made a point to mention this to him. He assured me that he wouldn't be in business for 30 years if he didn't know the drill.
Next time I hear from him, the amp is all fixed and the price is $235, less the $35 "deposit" which I paid to drop it off. I'd have rather bought a brand new amp for $65 more dollars and he never gave me the option to do this after promising he would.
Pam played dumb in the shop and said he never gives out estimates and she was sure of what he told me. So now they get this 1 star review. I wanted to like them but I thought this was unprofessional and very overpriced repair relative to the value of the amp. A repair should not be well over half the value of a used piece of equipment... its as if he charged me the absolute most he knew he could get out of me while holding my amp hostage. Will...
Read moreDo yourself a favor and call Wilson Audio instead. Here, you get dismissive service not even willing to talk through what you might be getting yourself into. I was asking just for a general high-low range estimate for a slow running turntable. He was either incapable or too lazy to say if he’s ever dealt with an issue like that in the “40 yEaRs I’Ve bEeN iN bUsInEsS” and refused to even entertain a guess. Not a quote or anything, just what the best or worst case scenarios could be. Wilson Audio was MUCH more receptive to talking through the potential issues at hand and give a range. Glad I read all the other bad reviews to avoid walking into the...
Read moreBrought a tube amp in here for repair of a consistent hum. It was there for a month before I had to call to see the status. I ended up picking it up, to find the issue was not corrected but I did have to pay $200 for replacement parts and service. Not only that but upon inspection of the amp I found the reverb unit was completely broken (it was not before the first repair). I then took it back and found out he was unable to repair it and recommended a complete tank replacement. So now I have to purchase a new reverb tank and bring to another tech with likely total repair costs exceeding the price of the amp....
