I wanted to wait till I've gone a few times before I give an honest, (and Mexican) review. The first time I went, I wanted Menudo, something fierce. The thing with Menudo, really anywhere, is that it's hard to find. I've been all over the US, and really unless your in the southwest somewhere, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Texas...You ain't finding squat. Taqueria Sanchez has it on most days. Its a first come first served kinda thing, but as all good flavor experts should, it's on par with my grandmas so that's saying a lot. Look, now I get it, most of you that are reading this aren't going to look for the most exotic of things that this place has to offer and that's ok. They have a great selection of good ol fashioned tacos and burritos to suit your needs. All are flavorful and delicious. Portions are generally what you would expect, for the price you're paying. These guys are fast at it too! Quick in, quick out no bs. With that in mind there's no place to sit either. Lunch time it typically gets hectic. The time previous to this, I waited for 30 min to place an order. Wait I did. It's well worth it. The only problem is that they don't have a website or any menu to speak of that's easy for you to see when you get there. That's really the only negativity you're going to see from me about this spot. Having a menu online some place to peruse before getting there or placing your order would be nice. If you're just needing a quick bite and you're in the mood for something authentic rather than most other fast food spots, I've yet to be disappointed. A few recommendations, El Pastor, Chicarones, and Fajita are three safe choices if this is your first...
Read moreMajor drop in the quality of food. I think they may have gone under new management within the last year or so. I’ve been here regularly for almost three years, sometimes enjoying 6-12 of the best tacos on the West Bank as much as three times a week. However, my last few trips were disappointing. The Carne Asada tacos (that tasted like ground beef instead) were incredibly dry and poorly seasoned. The East bank location at least still has Carne Asada, but I don’t think I even finished a bite because of how dry and over cooked it was; the meat was literally hard. My boyfriend squeezed the meat and nothing happened; it held shape and no juice came out. I couldn’t help but feel as though this was personal attack; that’s how dry this meat was. The worst of all, they still charge $3.00 a taco; the prices they charged when their quality was through the roof. Go somewhere else or save your money this place is expensive and unfortunately not...
Read moreFood looked delicious, the flavor didn't back it up.
The desebrada tacos were a bit tough. The barbacoa tacos were good but extremely wet that by the time they got to me, the tortilla didn't hold together anymore. Lastly, the Gordita.. I wanted it to be good so bad. It was a mess. I appreciated the fresh tortilla but the chicharron wasn't chicharron, it was just gooey fat bits. Oh, the horchata was WAY too sweet and too much cinnamon. All their aguas frescas were too sweet.
All in all, this seemed like an attempt to make Mexican food l, but it falls short because the textures and flavors aren't consistent with Mexican food.
Being Mexican and having just moved here from the Midwest, maybe it's my fault for having fairly high expectations of...
