I accidentally dropped my iPhone and the screen cracked. It was just a hairline, so I wasn't too worried about it, but over time more cracks appeared and it started to nag at me.
Eventually, I decided to purchase mobile phone insurance through my carrier (AT&T) and subsequently filed a claim through Asurion. I spoke with a rep at Asurion on a Friday, who handled everything very quickly and efficiently, arranging the repair through one of their authorized repair centers, uBreakiFix, in Gulfport, MS. Not too far away from where I live in Biloxi, which was good. An email from Asurion informed me the repair could take 2 hours, which was not so good, but I concluded the inconvenience was worth it to fix that cracked screen.
I was not able to visit the store on Saturday and thought I'd have to try during the work week, which tends to be a hassle, but when I Googled uBreakiFix and checked their hours, I was pleasantly surprised to see they were open on Sunday! As it was a Sunday and I had some spare time, I headed over, arriving shortly after 12 p.m.
There was a customer ahead of me, who was just leaving, so I stepped up. I was greeted in a friendly manner by Mr. Long Pham. He asked how he could help me and I told him that I had an insurance claim for a cracked screen, through Asurion. He looked up my claim using my name, and saw it in the system. I asked him if it would be possible to complete the repair the same day, maybe in a couple of hours? He replied that it would only take about 30 minutes! I didn't shout "Hooray!," but I did express my surprise and he just smiled at me.
He took my phone and examined it, and made sure the "Find My iPhone" feature was turned off. He was able to start work on it immediately, and asked if I was going to return or would I like to wait. With only a half-hour to kill, I told him I would just wait there. As he was heading to the back room, I asked him if they allowed customers to watch while they worked, and he smiled enigmatically and said "No, that's our repair area and we don't allow that," or words to that effect. I was just curious, so I told him it was fine. So, he went off to the mysterious back room, "Where all the magic happens," I believe I also said.
With 30 minutes ahead of me I walked around the customer area. It isn't very large, but the open design and high ceiling gave it a specious feel. There are low-backed chair stools along one side and the front wall. Along another wall were racks displaying various phone cases and protective screen shields. A couple of monitors behind the front counter displayed some animated advertising. A nice little space, actually.
While I waited, I observed several customers come in and in each case Mr. Long Pham came out from the shop to help them, in a friendly and professional manner. After about 20-25 minutes, he returned with my phone in hand. I saw a nice new screen, free of cracks! And he had placed a protective, clear screen on the display, which I though was a nice touch. He informed me that since the repair was covered under insurance there was nothing to pay to him, and if there was a deductible that would be handled by Asurion, through my carrier.
I left with my newly-repaired iPhone about a half-hour after arriving, very happy indeed and pleased with the...
Read moreWell I knew nothing about this company. I Google them and several other businesses showed up. And I chose something that was closer than Biloxi. So I choose uBreakifix on hwy 49 next to planet fitness. My cell phone was acting up; basically it was dropping calls. So I called uBreakifix and the receptionist there said we will tell you what's wrong and give you an estimate while you're here.. " bonus point". Y'all this company was true to its word. I got there they did just as she said. And they provided me with nothing be quality service. And sometimes when you do business with some companies they just give you plain old average service and even try to rip you off. But y'all I am not kidding this place had it all; I mean friendly, flexible, reasonable price, truly they surpass my expectations. I mean I gave them my baby something that's so precious to me( cell phone) and they took good care of him.. Let me tell you why I like uBreakifix..The lady at the desk; It saddened me I forgot her name. But, no sooner you walk in the door she says welcome to uBreakifix; I'll be with you in a moment in a pleasant tone and she said it to every single person while I was there, who walked through that door(while busy with a customer) "bonus point". Now she looked at my phone and I had a small cracked on my phone so she said it's your receptioners.. and you would need a new screen.. so I got my lil new screen put on.. by the way excellent job! however, it still dropped calls. Now, no fault of the company I was told they didn't find the problem that I said but they will continue to work on my baby.. but eventually she said they have run it several times but couldn't find anything. And that was ok with me because it was just an older model phone. Nonetheless, this guy there named Tyler didn't just send me away; he provided me with some options and I appreciateted that because it showed he worked with me and didn't just pee on my leg and tell me it's raining.. in other words, this business is not ripping people off. "bonus points. Again, nowadays you need to be careful because some businesses will do customers so bad that they need a F plus on a report card. So everytime I visit a business I'll give a report card grade and call them out.. especially if you provide stinky, smelly service. But I highly recommend UBreakifix with an A plus report card. KUDOS UBREAKIFIX keep...
Read moreI called Saturday to ask if I could bring my phone to be diagnosed. I told them I was thinking it needed a new board but wanted to be sure. I asked if I could bring it Sunday and hang out in Gulfport (I don't live here) while I waited on it. They said sure it should take around an hour. Sunday when I arrived I was told by the same guy I talked to on the phone that they don't do diagnosis on Sunday. This was a major inconvenience for me since I live 2 hours away. When I talked to management about it they told me a diagnosis for the board takes 3 hours. I asked why I was told 1 hour and they couldn't tell me. I was lied to many times and nothing was done to resolve my issue.
Response to the reply by ubreakifix;
Lie 1, you said "he had no way to know you would show up Sunday". I asked him on the phone if I could come Sunday and have then do the 1 hour diagnosis and he said yes. I came at 2 Sunday. Since you don't open until 12 this was closer to the time you open than the time you closed. Lie 2, my wife never told you through messenger I would come either Sunday or Monday. More detail on the diagnosis,. When a customer says hey can I bring my phone down tomorrow and leave it for an hour and come back and get it the same day and goes further into detail saying they think it might need a new board the technician shouldn't say "yes". If not all diagnosis take an hour the technician should say it could take an hour to 3 hours, especially when given this additional information. I get that you can't always trust the customers to know what is wrong, but you shouldn't misstate how long a diagnosis takes either. That doesn't really matter though because when I came there Sunday the technician said they don't do diagnosis on Sundays at all. If your tech is trained to tell customers on the phone one thing and then tell them something different when they come to the store it's a shame they are trained to lie. I have a recording of the phone conversation as well where your technician told me it would be fine for me to bring my phone Sunday and wait an hour or so for it to be diagnosed and then pick it back up. I showed up at 2 for what I was told only took an hour. This gave you 3 hours to do what I was told would only take an hour. Maybe you shouldn't train your technicians to lie on the phone since in your words he "did what he is trained to do in the best...
