Susie Parton (ARNP/ CNM) : She delivered my baby (Legend) and I believe she saved his life. When the water was broken his heart rate dropped dramatically. She, along with some of her staff, rushed in and brought the baby's heart rate back up. She made sure that I would open with minimal tear by expanding the opening. However, when the baby's head dropped it was apparent that the rest of him had to come out ASAP. He had the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck! She instructed me to take a deep breath in and to push while also breathing out through my diaphragm. Voila, baby was out and cried with a healthy set of lungs. I did end up tearing (it's my first baby and I was high risk due to gestational diabetes, I elected the vaginal delivery even though a C section was an option) but I feel that had Susie not had done such a good job that I would have torn way worse than I did (2nd degree). For example, my older sister had her second baby vaginally at Celebration and she had to get 11 stitches, mine was maybe 6-8 stitches in comparison despite my being high risk, so close to full term, and it being my first. Susie even checked back on me on my third day to make sure I was doing well and satisfied with the service. Did I mention that when I delivered my baby it was within the same hour that two other women had delivered their babies? The nursing staff was able to successfully provide for 3 births within the same hour (there was a fourth birth later that night as well - but imagine! 3 within an hour!)
Marie (night nurse): She is probably in her 20's, very sweet, soft spoken, polite, she was very quiet as a night nurse. She asked if I would like any snacks and I said no I was fine (to be honest I didn't want to impose). She came back with snacks and left them on the table, she said she brought them in case I changed my mind. She is an angel. I did change my mind and I ended up eating the snacks immediately.
Kim (day nurse): Kim was my day nurse I believe for the first or second day. She was professional, and very knowledgeable. She has a ton of experience and was my go to person for questions that I would have been otherwise afraid to ask anyone else. She has this motherly energy about her, I felt comfortable in her presence.
Experience:
First of all, I grew up in the Kissimmee/ Davenport area since I was 12 years old. My spouse was born in the Osceola Regional Hospital. My close childhood friend is a nurse. And we have heard horror stories about Heart of Florida for years. That must have been before they were bought out by Advent Health 2 years ago because upon entering the 5th floor we were greeted by glowing reviews by professionals on the quality of care from HoF's Baby Center. And they were right! As of 2021, I can confidently say that this is the best place to go if you want to have a baby.
All in all, the nursing and hospital staff in general were professional, respectful, humble, clean, experienced, friendly, reliable. Oh! And the room service! They made sure I was fed breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It didn't taste like the stereotypical hospital food, it tasted like hotel food (at least that's what I called it). Post delivery I had eggs for breakfast, a well rounded lunch, and a hearty dinner. They restocked the bathroom supplies upon request (diaper pads, cooling gel packs - which, by the way, bend until it the plastic bag pops THEN remove the gel liners out of the plastic encasing, spray bottle for after patting yourself clean, etc.)
I am so grateful I chose Heart of Florida Advent Health instead of Winnie Palmer or...
Read moreThe staff is always SO friendly! From Reception to Surgery, You get a sense that they have a mission that they are following and they’re treating you with love & respect. BUT, I had surgery there and had to spend a night in the hospital. It felt like an entirely different facility overnight. I don’t like to give negative reviews, but when you are vulnerable after surgery and have to depend on these people, it needs to be said that you want to feel safe and taken care of and I definitely did not. I will say that I know they were overloaded on this day and were super busy. But the nighttime staff was not attentive to my needs, made me feel like I was a nuisance for asking for assistance to go to the bathroom or for water or for things that I probably should’ve been given without having to ask. There was a tech whose cologne was so cloying, I felt like I had to throw up. Whenever he came in, [when he finally responded] he'd knock hard & say 'Whaddya need?' With zero patience in his voice. I asked a tech to remove the needle from my left hand because I no longer had an IV and my hand was sore. She rolls her eyes and says, 'That's for your nurse' and walks out.[[obviously, after surgery, there are a lot of people in and out of your room and you don’t always know who they are so you ask whoever happens to walk in]] Later the nurse tries to give me an antibiotic through the left hand and it didn't work, so she took the needle out. I told her I'd asked another lady to take it out and the nurse said they leave it in just in case of an emergency. The 1st tech could’ve told me that instead of giving me the eye roll. There was another tech who responded to my bathroom call and working in the dark??? knocked over the soda and jello on my tray, wetting up my phone & crackers that were on the table, my blanket and making a complete mess. Meanwhile, she starts to clean this mess (barely) while I’m standing there about to faint after having had surgery and wanting to go to the bathroom. She’s cleaning up! The nurse comes in, takes in the scene and sees that I’ve somehow disconnected from my drainage tube and there’s blood leaking on the floor. She starts cleaning THAT up. I feel faint and I tell them, I Really need to go to the bathroom or lie back down, but I can't just stand here. After all this fun, the nurse takes my soiled, blanket off of me and throws it into a chair in my corner. Later. I ask for a pillow & a nurse asks if I'm cold because I’m shivering. She proceeds to give me the dirty blanket from the corner. I don’t even say anything at that point. I continue to feel lightheaded for that entire night and was worried that I was gonna hurt myself because I didn’t want to call for help. I start spotting and had to ask for something. The tech leaves comes back, hands me underwear & a pad and says, ' You can do it,' and leaves. Mind you, I had spinal surgery. I absolutely CANNOT DO IT! The only reason I’m leaving this thorough review is because I could’ve gotten hurt. My needs weren’t met in a satisfactory way and I could not wait to go home. They made a very scary situation, even scarier. Sidenote: The highlight of the visit were the two physical therapy people that came to my room. I wish I could remember her name, but the girl actually took the time to wipe off my sticky table, pick up my things that had fallen to the floor and treat me with respect. And before I get the standard response about how sorry you are and can I put this in an email. That’s not my job. YOU put it in an email. You’ve got my review. Why do I need to do an additional step to be taken seriously? Everything you need to...
Read moreIf I could do zero stars I would The unprofessionalism of ER medical staff was quite alarming. The room was quite dirty old dry Roman noodles and hair on the floor along with a used pair of gloves on top of a machine next to the bed in a room that you shared with another patient with only a curtain separating you. no one used an indoor voice to try and respect HIPPA law not one individual who entered the room introduced themselves not ONE !!!! I had to ask their names . I was praying my family member who was being seen did not have to be admitted. The CT scan tech unknown lady , ??? saw no badge but yet she says , “I’m here to scan your head” I said HEAD ??? she laughed and said or stomach. She thought it was cute to say , oh I never look at the chart till I get them to the CT scan room. Well that does not make someone feel safe or comfortable. She says we will have him back in 5 min. Kristy not sure if she is a doctor or nurse practitioner but she has no empathy or compassion saw her twice and not one time did she physically examine him. But drill us for questions of any prior issues. Shayla and Gabriel were very nice my only take away is when I asked Shayla before I knew her name for a blanket she was standing behind the nurse station chatting and laughing with others and had us wait for a blanket. I am not sure why Kristy did not offer a blanket when she literally could see he was visibly cold and she asked if he was cold but did not offer a blanket. Also Shayla had to run around to find batteries for a machine that was used to scan his stomach that kept having issues meanwhile he is in severe abdominal pain. When the lady from registration for billing came in along with another young lady who I’m assuming was a trainee , I asked if they knew the name of the nurse who was caring for him which was Gabriel they did not know his name and when the young lady trainee went to ask the very rude nurse sitting at the nurse station for his name, she responded why what’s up ??? The young lady said patient wants to know., the unknown woman in the light blue scrubs with nose ring hanging from her nose again responds very rudely what’s up his name is Gabriel what’s the problem??? I have never in all my years and I literally worked in several hospitals and been a patient in a few hospitals never have I ever seen such piss poor behavior from medical staff. If you have no EMPATHY OR COMPASSION for people and a genuine love for what you do then please go somewhere else place else to just make a dollar. I was truly concerned for my family member. Also they told us the prescription would be sent to the Walgreens pharmacy ACROSS the street well we got there and they told us it’s not here and we are not able to transfer it to this location???? I’ve never heard of such and we go where she told us and that was wrong location at this point I am annoyed tired hungry you name it because this time this location says well I can transfer all but the pain medicine??? What ??? I said just please give me whatever meds u can fill here because this is ridiculous.. I promise you I will NEVER EVER return to Advent Hospital not even if my dog was sick it’s upsetting unsettling and unethical behavior I also will never use Walgreens which was not our choice of pharmacy they never asked us for our pharmacy they instead sent the script to Haines City ?? We do not live in Haines City and they were actually given his address in Winter Springs. He was visiting in Davenport when suddenly felt sick with extreme abdominal pain. This place is awful and it hurts me because when it was heart of Florida hospital...
