My wife and I had reservations about this new restaurant as we were regulars at the Nothing Fancy Cafe, the restaurant that was in the location previously. However, those reservations were quickly dispelled with our first visit. The atmosphere inside is almost identical to that of the Nothing Fancy Cafe with only minor changes to the decor. One big difference is the shortening of one of the walls leading to the hostess stand. This has opened the restaurant up and made it brighter and more cozy. Unlike the previous restaurant where you came in and sat yourself the Davenport Diner has a hostess who will seat you. This location has been open just about two weeks and both times we have been the hostess has sat us near a window where the sun was beating down on the table. However, when we asked for a different table each time she was very accommodating in giving us a table out of the sun. The service is outstanding and the wait staff is very attentive to your needs. As for the food we could not have been more impressed. The portions (we always eat breakfast) are very large and delicious. My wife ordered the two-pancake stack the first time and found it was WAY too much food. Additionally, those pancakes were chocolate-chip and when you order those they put the chips on top of the pancake after they are done, in addition to the chips that are in the batter. This was very chocolatey, even too much for her. The second time she only ordered the single stack (without the chip topping) and while it was the perfect amount of food the batter is very chocolatey still due to the chips in the batter. Something to keep in mind if you order them as the chocolate is almost overpowering. The hash browns are very good and have been crunchy and hot each time. For bread I highly recommend the wheat toast for breakfast (my wife orders the english muffin) as it is very soft and the butter just melts on it as they bring you the bread before the meal (unlike Nothing Fancy which brought it all together). The only other items we order are the side of sausage patties which are three times the size of the ones given by the previous restaurant and are very good, and the bacon which is very crispy. The prices are just as good as previous if not better and we still leave with that feeling of being full to where we do not eat the rest of the day. For those patrons who remember the Nothing Fancy Cafe and are sad it has gone away I highly recommend you try the new kid in town in the Davenport Diner. It is a very worthy replacement and is very good in...
Read moreToday was our first visit the The Davenport Diner for lunch. The first thing we noticed was that the restaurant was packed and the tables were very close as there was no social distancing being practiced which was very uncomfortable. We should have left but we chose to stay. We ordered a patty melt with fries, bacon cheeseburger with fries and onion rings and a grilled chicken platter with green beans, chicken noodle and mashed potato’s. The patty melt was had a thick meat patty on toasted marbled bread. The Bacon cheeseburger also had a thick meat patty and plenty of bacon. I ordered mine with just onion (I don’t like lettuce and tomato on a burger) and it was a whole thin thin slice of onion. I like that it was sliced so thin but a whole slice is too much. Without condiments, the burger really didn’t have much taste...even adding Mayo and ketchup wasn’t enough. The bun was brioche and tasty. The fries are crinkle cut and seasoned and the onion rings were thick onions with the perfect amount of crispy batter on the outside. The grilled chicken was of a good portion and tasty. The green beans (veg of the day) and mashed potato’s with brown gravy were both tasty. The chicken noodle soup was also tasty. Each of these entrees were between $8.99 and $9.99. Our server was friendly and was there when we needed her to be. Our only criticism is that the burgers could use a little more seasoning and being that there was no social distancing during this pandemic, it felt a bit COVIDY. Also, the server fir two of the tables around us seemed very familiar with those customers and was talking about things I’d rather it hear when eating. They do have daily specials which would be interesting to try. I gave them 3 stars this time, but I think they have potential to be...
Read moreThis weekend we had the pleasure of staying at the Westgate resort. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find an "unchained" breakfast nearby. Reviews led us to the Davenport diner and we couldn't have been happier. A short ride 10-15 mins from 192 depending on traffic, and it was well worth it. We walked in to a very happily staffed restaurant. Skip was our waiter and he was literally one of the best in the industry as far as I'm concerned. So many times (pretty much every time) servers will put food and drinks in front of our toddler only for him to knock it off the table. Skip made sure to drop all food and drinks away from the baby. He was very attentive the entire breakfast, answered our questions and provided recommendations based on what he liked! I like that! Nothing worse when you ask what's good? And server says "I don't know"
Breakfast? Perfect! Kids ordered chocolate chip pancakes, they were delicious, the pancakes had a vanilla taste to them, and were cooked perfectly. Kids ate their entire breakfast (for once) My wife ordered the Greek omelette which was full of spinach and feta not skimpy at all and fluffy. I ordered a Denver omelette which was extremely tasty, full of ingredients and plenty of delicious American cheese, I also opted for the smoked sausage with my omelette based on Skip's recommendation and I'm glad I did. It was delicious! Sliced tomatoes I ordered with my omelette were crisp and tasty as well. Another nice touch by the restaurant is that they use whipped butter packs. I know it's a super simple thing, but it's nice to always be able to spread butter on your toast without fighting with a hard lump of butter trying to spread it on your toast. I highly recommend this spot for breakfast! We...
