As long as I can remember, customer service is a top priority for this truly locally owned grocery store chain. This new store meets it in spades. The attention to detail gives the feel of an indoor market; the lady arranging flowers at the entrance way, the charming displays, folks in the bakery chatting it up with a customer, and the way my deli order was Sliced fresh and to my liking. Weis also took full advantage of the new wine and beer laws in Pennsylvania. I visited in the morning, but imagine that this is a draw for the folks working at the local Technology Parkway. It is also a less-than-traditional way to the guests staying at the local hotels to wind down with a craft beer or glass of local wine and freshly made food (a good variety of that, I might add). The down side to all of these extras is the noticeable difference in prices, compared to the similarly laid-out Giant across the street. My price comparisons were from my albeit faulty memory, but the ones I checked were anywhere from pennies to a dollar more. (Hence, the 4 out of 5 stars) That being said, I am sure that this issue could be neutralized with some good planning and smart couponing.. I hope this place does well, as Weis is as Pennsylvania home-grown as a...
Read moreI love to grocery shop but am choosy about where I go. I have my favorites - the dollar stores for a incidental budget items, Sheetz and Exxon in Enola for quick snacks on the go, Walmart for a list of "nothing fancy" items, and my new found favorite - Weis Markets in Enola for when the list is long and varied and I have a little extra in the budget.
You can find just about anything you need here, and many things you never knew you needed. The prices are fair - especially if you've cut coupons or are using a savings apps. My only complaint is that the store is sooo big! It's a half day excursion to get it all done, especially if you are easily distracted by pretty lights and delicious smells, by gourmet cand..SQUIRREL!! sorry, gourmet candies. (Did you see it? If so, then you, like me, will be there for hours fighting off the many ways to lose yourself inside this store).
As a side note, this store helped me face the hard fact that I am growing older. (not old, just older). I used to spend weekends going wild with friends, then going wild with kids, then - well...going wild at Weis! Am I alone...
Read moreIf I could have put zero stars, I would have! I came into the store a couple days ago and I got a bucket of fried chicken. I got this bucket of fried chicken because it was all legs, there were nine of them. I am not a big fan of chicken breast. To me it's just dry. So the woman told me that there was a bucket with nine legs and as if I would want that and I said yes. The chicken was pretty bland as far as that goes, but I did notice that the last few pieces were not cooked all the way and one of them was actually red, not pink, red!! I do not understand why the manager of that department is not overseeing it better. I do not understand why the manager of the store would allow something like this to go on. I'm wondering if they have ever had salmonella poisoning. I asked that because salmonella is one of the foodborne illnesses that can actually kill you! Chicken must be cooked completely done. And when there are bones in the chicken it needs to be cooked longer because it takes longer. Any more reasons why I should stay shopping at Weis markets? I'm got great reasons why I should never, ever...
