The Good: Was able to negotiate the one time yearly fee to be taken off since I was debating between joining this location or the Matthews location. There is no vibe of judgement for clothes, body type, skill level, etc at this location. Itās very welcoming to anyone who wants to participate. They do fundraisers for local charities and will host free outdoor events sometimes. The classes made me realize I love Pilates on a reformer, but this club just isnāt for me.
The Bad: If you have any membership but the unlimited, scheduling a class is SO difficult. If you buy the 4 pack or 8 pack and you are thinking youāll be able to space them out so you can take a class once or twice a week equally throughout the month, think again! š« Because youāre not allowed to sign up for classes in the next month ahead of time. You have to wait until your month renews, and then by that point, the next two weeks of evening classes for Flow 1 are taken. (Flow 1 tends to be a very popular class) They will tell you to ājoin the waitlist!ā And āthe waitlist really works!ā But unfortunately thatās not the case if you are 3rd on the waitlist or more. And then IF you get off the waitlist, many times itās within 24hrs of the class and you now are unable to make it. This wouldnāt matter as much if we could roll over credits into the next month, but you canāt! you have to announce any injuries to the instructor across the studio in front of the whole class. The app should allow you to enter that information privately on your profile, and then the instructors can look at it before each class Multiple instructors are on their phones throughout the class instead of watching participants closely or giving feedback. And I donāt mean looking to change the song, I mean like texting and scrolling on their phones. Which is a huge safety issue imo. Besides just being unprofessional. Instructors across the board complain about how tired they are before they begin classes, which shouldnāt be the vibe they begin a workout class with. That being said, if these instructors are so tired because they have to work multiple jobs to pay their bills, they should be paid more so they can give their all to their classes.
So overall, I enjoyed it a lot at first, but then the negative parts of the experience quickly started adding up. If you have an open schedule and are able to do classes in the middle of the work day, it may be worth it for you. And choose Brea as your instructor. Shes never on her phone and she seems genuine in wanting to be there to give us a good class and give good feedback. Shes active and energetic and likes to engage with the participants. If signing up for every class was easier (or could rollover into the next month), and if I could take all Brea classes, I would stay. But itās just not worth the amount Iām paying if Iām not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUpdate: my favorite daytime instructor is Cyndi. She is challenging and explains the exercises well, reminding everyone to focus on their core during the exercises and ensuring we are doing them correctly so to not injure ourselves. Not all of the instructors are as focused on reminding about engaging our core or what to do to prevent injury.
I also like Bria and Maria. Iād love to take a Megan class but she teaches Wednesday evening and if I take that, I will be sore for Cyndiās class the next day.
There is a really good instructor from the highland creek location who has filled in a few times that I like BUT itās like she is yelling at you the whole time. I am not in to being yelled at like Iām a child.
There is an instructor that I like but she seems too distracted. We end up starting late and she gets us started on warm ups but then loses her focus on us, forgetting that we have been doing one thing for a long time.it has led to some injuries for me, so I have stopped going to that class. Itās unfortunate because I really like her.
Old review: I love Asiaās classes! She has a great energy and I appreciate her checking in at the beginning of class to see what injuries anyone is dealing with. I have autoimmune arthritis that has caused permanent damage to my toes. I cannot go onto my toes for plank type exercises because it pushes the bone on bone and is painful. Asia stopped to show me a way to modify a certain exercise so I still get benefit without pain/further damage. Thank you, Asia! (I also love her...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMEMBER BEWARE! The classes cost $200/month (for 8 classes). The most convenient times for my schedule booked up fast, and because of time constraints over the summer, I decided to cancel my membership. If you donāt cancel 30 days in advance, you will be charged the full $200. Although I canceled on July 18th, I was charged on July 25th and again on August 25th. I had to eat the first charge for July, which was fine, but my card continued to be charged. Upon me realizing the charge and notifying the club, the manager agreed to ācancel my membership at that point and allow me the extra month to attend classes through Septemberā. Excuse me no, I cancelled my membership on July 18th. That didnāt mean I wanted to pay fees up until September 25th. After a lengthy phone conversation and letting her know that I wasnāt going to pay for a membership I wasnāt using, she agreed to credit me Augustās (wrongfully charged) fee back. First she said it could take up to five business days, then she said ten business days. Today will be the twelfth business day and there is still no refund. The lesson learnedā¦if you want to ātry Pilatesā please be aware that if you put your card on file and decide to cancel, it is a headache and a half, and is definitely not worth $200/month. I have been a gym member for the last 25 years, and this is the worst experience I have ever had with a membership/customer service issue. Unfortunately I highly DO...
