Ihu Nui Sportsfishing: I came to Kona for the first time in 1989. Hung out at the Charter Desk almost every day I was on vacation for the the next 4 years trying to figure out which was the best boat and captain to spend my money on. Drove my family crazy, always wanting to be at the fuel dock every day when the boats came in. Finally realized that you couldn't go wrong with 25 plus boats and captains. I quickly found that some days certain boats catch fish and the next day another group would be successful. There was always one boat that was usually one of the first boats out and usually one of the last boats in. That was Freddie Rice and the IHU NUI. I booked 3 days fishing with Gail for July of 1994. Two of my best friends were going to be fishing with me on my first trip. They knew my life long dream of catching a Blue Marlin. Got to Kona and headed to IHU NUI's slip the first day of fishing. Was met by a captain named McGrew Rice and crew John Batterton. Where's Freddie? I felt like it was a bait and switch situation.I learned that Freddie Rice had went back to Cattle Ranching and McGrew had taken over captain duties. The next three days were filled with action Ono, Ahi, Skip Jack, and even a Black Marlin. But still no Blue Marlin. My two friends would not take their turns in the chair until I had caught what I had come for. As the afternoon of the third day began to wane into the evening we caught bait at C- buoy and ran to Red Hill. With little time to spare we rigged up a 12 lb.Shibi with no time to be particular about bait. By now it was after 4:00 P.M. Conditions were incredible bait jumping, birds crashing, the sky was a dark grey. The hair was standing up on everyone's arms. Little did I know one of my friends had went up top with McGrew and peeled out $100.00 bills to ensure we would stay out til dark! Nearing 4:30 it finally happened. 54 minutes, 47 jumps. and a 638LB. Blue and I was hooked for life. For the next 20 years my family and friends have fished with Mcgrew and various crew each year. Crew such as Matt Brown, Brian Toney, Oskie and Kaulike Rice, Keith "OB" Morton and for many of the last years our good friend Carlton Arai. We have had many of my families and friends best memories happen with McGrew and the IHU NUI family. From 1000LB. Tiger Sharks, Skins winning 771.5 Fish from Hell, and Five Ahi days.and too many others to list. All the people on the IHU NUI are family, post and present rather than just someone we fish with each year. You know how I feel about the the IHU NUI crew, If you follow my truck down the highway in California you will see my licence plates read IHUNUI1. See you in June of 2014! Tight Lines!
Your Friends! Rick and Colleen...

They are the consummate professionals and work very hard to help you catch the trophy of a lifetime, be it giant marlin, tuna, wahoo, spearfish or mahi.
