Wai and his wife are the owners, who are both highly reliable, trustworthy, honest, fair, flexible, extremely hardworking, good hearted, and intelligent (both college educated people). I met Wai and his family a few years ago to get quotes in building a retaining wall in my back yard. His price was about half the cost of the next closet quote I got from other rock wall contractors. I saw some of Wai’s previous project and signed with him to have him build my retaining wall. After the job was complete, I was amazed at how beautiful and well constructed the wall was (picture #7). I reached out to Wai to book him ASAP to also build a rock walls in my front property, as well as an enclosing my backyard with black fencing. The pictures do not do the quality of workmanship justice. The initial proposed plan for my front wall was to border the property line and angle the driveway pillars approximately 45 degrees. However, during construction, Wai asked if he could do something more unique, so I agreed and as the pictures show, we now have a beautiful planter box to complement our rock wall (pictures #2 & #3). I’ve heard many horror stories of contractors who disappear midway through the project, some overcharge, some build poor quality walls, and some show up inconsistently. We are thrilled with our amazing Rock Wall completed by Melekiola Rockwall & Fencing LLC ‼️ We found Wai Melekiola to be exceptionally kind, responsible, flexible, PROFESSIONAL & has a great voice, too🎵‼️ Wai continuously kept me ‘in the know’ even while I was out-of-state. I was thankful for the continuous dialogues we had; incidentally, Wai speaks Mandarin & Tongan as well. He was flexible & patient while accommodating my ‘shift’ in design. 🫣 The entire Melekiola Rockwall crew- including Pele, Tupa’i & Shawn were diligent, focused & just a fun group to have in the neighborhood. No matter the weather - beautiful sunshine or gentle raindrops, the team powered-through their task. So, you want a rock wall and maybe a fence. A little perspective first - this was my third rock wall in Hilo. Wai (pronounced Vi) and crew (Pele, Richard & Koa, all artists in their own right) are NOT the traditional rock wall builders. In comparison, it would be like saying that Norman Rockwell was just a painter. Wai is an artist who just happens to build incredible rock walls. Each stone is hand-shaped to fit perfectly in place, and the result is something from an archaeological site or a contemporary museum. A little bonus - these guys really enjoy their work, and you can tell by the laughter you’ll hear most of the day. WAI and crew also built our vinyl fence with the same quality and care. I just wish I had found them 16 years ago. Another HUGE benefit with Wai is his outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal. We could always count on Wai to keep us updated throughout the entire process. The only drawback is that we had to wait, because they are in demand.
