Star Gaze Hawaii offers a fantastic educational experience for those interested in constellations and celestial bodies. The guides were impressively knowledgeable, and the visual aids displayed on a tablet added a professional touch to the stargazing experience.
However, our experience was not without some hiccups. Our first scheduled session was cancelled without any prior notification, despite clear skies. While we were refunded promptly, it took a follow-up call two days later to discover that they mistakenly assumed we were part of a large group cancellation, even though our reservation was separate and (most likely) under different names.
During the stargazing session, we found that the telescope wasn’t zoomed in enough to fully appreciate Saturn and Jupiter; there was minimal drift, making it apparent that the setup wasn’t optimized for closer views.
At over $80 per person, this felt a bit steep given the logistical issues and telescope calibration. That said, it was still a valuable opportunity to learn from true experts in astronomy. With a bit more attention to detail, this could be a stellar experience for...
Read moreThis was our 2nd summer in a row visiting the Big Island for our family vacation. We had to experience Star Gaze Hawaii again! Unforgettable skies with no light pollution like we have back home in SoCal. Wayne, Verna, & Scott were extremely knowledgeable with their factoids and star lore and know how to work all their telescopes & iPads with ease. My 6 year-old niece is starting to love stargazing, and my 72 year-old dad who introduced our family to stargazing and is an avid astronomy buff loves this excursion. We learned so much!
If you're staying at the Westin, Residences, or Mauna Kea Resort, this spot is easy to get to and overlooks beautiful Hapuna Beach. The Westin lobby staff drops you off & picks you up in their golf carts. Wayne is very communicative about the upcoming weather, and will re-schedule you if needed. Thanks, Wayne,...

Hosts kept up a steady stream of info and had an Ipad so you had an idea what you were looking for before staring in the scope. Improvements: They had 2 hosts and 2 telescopes. Several times both were speaking at once so you had to divide attention. Also on the booking site in LARGE RED LETTERS should say "THIS IS A DARK EVIRONMENT, PLEASE DO NOT USE CELL PHONE DURING THE PRESENTATION" The experience was not great due to the 5-10 absolute idiots turning on cell phone with a bright screen trying to photo this or that, screen full brightness. Ruins the night vision. Stupid people need...
