This place is not worthy of the 3.9 review, let me tell you. I’m not sure what type of compensation the good reviewers were given, but I promise you they are not real, or at the very least they haven’t lived here long enough to experience the absolute worst possible living situation in the history of humanity. For starters, there is trash galore. I hope you like roaches because those are your new roommates no matter how clean you keep your unit. I had no idea they grew wings until living here. How exciting! Not to mention the piles of furniture by the dumpsters which is indicative of bed bugs (which, by the way, come in droves and are impossible to get rid of. Imagine waking up, taking a shower and washing bed bugs from betwixt your butt cheeks. Or waking up itching with welts all over your body. Or feeling the creepy crawling while you count down the hours before your morning shift, unable to get adequate rest because you have to swat away multiple disgusting blood sucking demons) the mouse problem is never resolved, they just give you a bunch of glue traps and you have to hope and pray they catch them all (spoiler alert: they don’t) there are always random people in the hallways, on the stairs, many of whom do not live here (and the doors have like one lock on them, not even a chain lock), smoking in the stair wells, cigarette butts everywhere, pill residue, the laundry rooms have mold growing and smell like literal human waste (take your pick, it smells like all three at some points), and more often than not the machines don’t work at full capacity, or at all. Maintenance? Don’t even bother calling, they don’t fix anything and if they do they might as well have slapped duct tape over the problem, and said a couple of Hail Mary’s for good luck because the issue is never fully resolved. The rent increases every year (as expected I suppose) but for what? There’s no way that’s going towards improving the complex. The renovations they stipulate are the “manager special” ifkyk. The only way that this property could be improved is if they level the whole thing with a bulldozer and start from scratch, because it’s just a hazard every which way you turn. Management is condescending and rude, it’s best to just stay out of their way. The area in general is unsafe....

The worst apartment complex ever. Serious money thieves and employees that don’t know how to be professional. My complaint is specifically to the assistant manager. She claimed to be the manager on several occasions and refused to help do any accommodations to me or my roommates. She raised her voice, spoke in a very unprofessional and unpleasant manner, AND charged us $70 for a late payment that was not our fault. When mentioning that we did pay the money on time, WITH SEVERAL proofs, she said she’ll talk to the manager, and try to get our money back. And that was the last time she ever got back to us. I have never disliked a stranger as much I cannot stand her. She is genuine a terrible person and I truly hope karma gets her in the future. I wish her nothing but failure. She does not care about your circumstances, she literally said as long as she gets HER money (aka rent), nothing else matters. I was honestly shocked and speechless at her, she’s completely dishonest and disgusting to work with. I do not understand how anyone could ever work with a materialistic inhumane being like that. Berkdale itself was a terrible experience as well. We have had thieves come into our apartment and steal from us, did the office do anything? nope. They did not even care. But even this experience was not as bad as my experience with the assistant manager. I truly hope she loses her job because the complex certainly deserves a better honest employee than her. I lived at this property for 15+ years and my experience was very disappointing from beginning to end. The biggest issue was management — they were consistently changing, unprofessional, unhelpful, and difficult to work with. Communication was poor, and any concerns I brought up as a resident were met with dismissiveness or, at times, outright rudeness. It felt like residents were treated as an inconvenience rather than valued members of the community.

Maintenance was another constant frustration. Work orders often went unanswered for long periods of time, and when something was eventually addressed, it was usually done in a rushed or incomplete way. I frequently had to follow up multiple times just to get basic issues resolved, which created unnecessary stress and disruption. A well-run property should prioritize resident safety and comfort — unfortunately, that was not the case here.

I also want to note that many of the glowing reviews for this property seem to come from residents who were offered incentives to leave positive feedback. This creates a very misleading picture of what life is actually like here. As someone who lived here, I can say the reality did not match the image the management tries to present online.

Since moving, I have found a new community where the staff is respectful, responsive, and genuinely cares about residents’ well-being.
