Mako's Water Taxi — Local services in Homer

We did the Seldovia Package. Great price for what you get to do, the boat ride was wonderful, captain took us around a little extra for views. The taxi ride was...unique! Local lady drove us (sometimes a little too fast...) from the dock to the town of Seldovia. There were only two businesses open in the entire town so that was very disappointing but lunch and drinks at the Linwood Bar and Grill was incredible! The fairly short walk to the airport was easy and pretty. The flight back was a little less than desirable. Not a lot of instruction given from Mako's about the airport situation, so we wandered a lot trying to figure out which plane (marked with a different company, so that added to the confusion) pilot was nice, but not friendly. Never introduced himself or explained much and was not willing to talk or show us anything on the flight back. Mako's arranged for a taxi to take us from Homer airport back to the spit and that was a little sketchy and smelly, but it was better than walking. My tour with Central Charter was canceled, and they didn't notify me until I went to the counter and asked where I was to meet. I was so upset because it was my last availability to get out on the water. On my way back to the car I stopped by Mako's and asked if they ever did tours. They couldn't do a formal tour, but offered me a "ride-along". Kara was a fantastic informal tour guide! She showed me a lot of stuff (Gull island and Halibut Cove) on the way to pick up her first clients across the bay. It was a lot of fun! Kara then hooked me up with another taxi boat and Cari took me along with her pick-ups and drop-offs. With two more bays to explore we saw seal, otters, huge jellyfish, and humpback whales breaching! They do charge for "ride-alongs", but honestly I got way more out of my unofficial tours than expected. I met two fantastic captains, got to chat with people that were getting picked up and dropped off, and spent over 3 hours on the water. Thanks Mako's! We did a ride along tour today with Mako’s and had an absolutely wonderful time. Our group had two adults and two children (5 & 8) and tagged along while some people were dropped off and food was delivered to a hatchery. We had an excellent experience from start to finish. I was able to call day of and was told that a great ride along was available. We went into town and paid for our ride and had a conversation with the woman in the office about all the local spots and what we would see. We then loaded up on The Mulligan with Lance. He was very friendly and entertained the kids pretty much the entire trip showing them different areas and letting them help out around the boat. We had top notch service as we were given a personal tour around Seldovia while there was some time to waste before picking up some other people. We had an excellent time and would recommend...
