Azama located on 10th Avenue is a "hole in the wall" store. The smell of old fish blood is strong and the store is old and it's indoor decor outdated BUT I'm not too worried about the decor! The dry aku is the best I've tasted throughout the islands and yes - everyone's taste buds are different - but for me - Azama dry aku is ON MARK! Currently, it's $31.99 a pound. Read more⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ First time I came here, I grabbed 1 pound of their dry aku and it instantly brought me back to my childhood days when my dad used to buy the thick sticks from Ward Farmers Market near Ala Moana. So ono and nostalgic!
I just went back today and picked up 4 more pounds to take home because it was THAT good. The flavor is perfect — salty, smoky, chewy — just how I remember it. If you grew up in Hawaiʻi, this will definitely bring back memories.
