Great modernization of Vietnamese food with all the flavors, we went there 2x in 3 days bc there is so much that we want to try as lunch and dinner menus differ. I think I would go back for lunch though however the desserts during dinner were amazing. I also enjoyed the Hanoi fish that was a red snapper cooked in banana leaves. They really use all the aromatic herbs that you don't even see at most pho restaurants. The combination of all the aromatics is amazing. We had the vegetable ceviche which was light and fresh but just ok. Crispy broccolini was good but I wouldn't order it next time bc deep fried and we are trying to be healthy lol. We had the green apple sorbet over pastry puff which my husband loved but I loved my Valrona(sp?) chocolate cake even more. Both desserts felt light and not overly sweet. For lunch there were 3 of us so we ordered the com ga rice dish which was the best com ga ever bc of the fresh flavors and aromatics!!! Wings were nice and flavorful too, husband loved those. I'm trying to stay away from DF. I had had the papaya salad and banana blossom salad which were huge portions. Should have just gotten 1 as my meal and since my mom cooks thai and does an amazing papaya salad then I would just get the banana blossom as I have never seen that on menus and love the tamarind flavors. Husband had the French dip brisket banh mi with pho broth...ok I would come back here for this dish alone!!!(plus all the desserts). The broth was just so flavorful and next time I might get the pho too with the banh mi to get all the fresh herbs too and shallots. Husband said he got more fat in his brisket banh mi than his last visit. We had the goat cheese panna cotta which doesn't have that heavy goat cheese taste that my husband hates so even he loved it. It was topped with pineapple granita and star fruit...so light and refreshing and delicious. Prob my fav dessert. 2nd fav was the yuzu cream cheese tart topped with berry sauce...yum!!!! Perfect tartness and sweetness yet light and crunchy crust. Actually both of these desserts were my favorite and I would have to order them again. We also had the malasadas which had a lime dusting and stuffed with kabocha filling and like this coffee foam on side wig sprinkles of pomegranate...again just amazing!!!! The malasadas were also light and pillowy but of course deep fried. We got also got the soft serve which was a mix of pear proseco and gingerbread...so good!!! Best soft serve ever. I would definitely come back here

I've heard about The Pig & The Lady for a long time, and I wasn't sure what to expect from a "fancy" Vietnamese place as a Vietnamese person, but I'm so glad I went. This was our first dinner on our trip and it was so satisfying. We made a reservation for two at the bar. We arrived on time but were seated 15 minutes after our reservation time. I liked that there is enough space between seats for people to feel comfortable. We were seated by the food prep side, not the bar side, so it was cool watching the chefs assemble the dishes. Toast: I think it was strange that it's a minimum of three per order. We mixed and matched two chicken pate (pickled jalapeno, maggi caramelized onion, cilantro) and shared one whipped Laughing Cow cheese toast (black garlic, pink pepper, lemon). It's flavor overload; there needed to be more carb or less topping to even the flavors out. It was nice to try once but I wouldn't get it again. The cheese toast was a nice palate cleanser after the salty pate one. Chicken wings (makrut leaves, pickled red onion, peanut, money sauce): These are big, whole wings. The sauce was too thin for the meat to pick up on, so I kept having to dip the meat back on the plate. However the dish itself was crispy and the flavors were fresh. Octopus & bone marrow busiate (red wine, gochujang, roasted bone marrow, sesame breadcrumbs, mint & shiso): This was rich and tasty. It came out last (long after our other foods were done), around 45 min after ordering. I don't know if I'd say it was worth the wait, but it was nice to finish this off and share it between two people. I don't recall the names of our drinks but I think it was a whiskey-heavy menu. I got the one gin-based drink and my friend got a daiquiri as well as a funky-tasting one which he liked. The server took away my drink when I wasn't done yet and he happily ordered another one for me, a free replacement which I was happy with. It was my bad I didn't notice he was cleaning up behind me. I loved the interesting decor in the bathroom and the picture of the staff with Kurt Russell. Overall, I enjoyed the unique take on Asian food at this restaurant, and it has a lot of charm. It'd be great for date nights, girls' night out, and more. I'd recommend it.

Heard a lot about this place, so I made a dinner reservation for the last night me and my family would be in Oahu, to top off our amazing trip. It was definitely a unique food experience, but I can't say I'm on board with the P&L hype train. The combinations, while inventive, did not really produce memorable flavor profiles. At times, it seemed forced. The Washugyu Flank Steak dish, for example. The crying tiger sauce makes anything taste good, the washugyu steak, also great by itself. The steak and sauce together, however, was just... a good bite. It wasn't an amazing out of this world experience I expected it to be. The real hero on that dish was the fingerling potato medallions, which truly stole the show. The Bo Ssam Bánh Xèo appetizer was okay. The kimchi nuoc cham added a bit more flavor to the ssam, but the oysters were unnecessary - perhaps there as a reason to charge extra for the dish? Bo Kho Papardelle was an enjoyable dish, as it had Vietnamese flavors infused into the sauce, albeit not a strong flavor, which is a bit of a letdown. We'd have expected flavors of the cultures being fused to be brought out by each other, not tuned down to a point where it's just a hint of each culture's presence. Squid Ink Spaghetti seemed a bold decision to be put on the menu as it looked very out of place for a Viet restaurant, so we tried it. It was only okay. As is the case with the other dishes, it tries very hard to be something extraordinary, but we just couldn't figure out what the intent was. Vivo's in Orlando did it better. All in all, a semi expensive experience that was a bit disappointing. We went and got food from 7-11's afterwards to actually fill out our stomachs, and enjoyed the Southwest & Somen salads better. Their menu does change fairly frequently, so hopefully your experience will be better.

This is my third time here, and it never disappoints. The only sucky part is parking, but it's worth the parking hassle! Try to make reservations, but we didn't. We came 10 min before they opened on a Saturday, and we were sat immediately. Here's what the 3 of us shared: Burmese Tea Salad - I know, it's a Vietnamese restaurant, but they did this right, and we devoured this. Le Fried Chicken Wing - delicious and giant chicken wings (5 pieces) - honestly one per person is plenty. Fried to perfection and the sauce is great, it's not drenched in it, and you can dip your chicken in the bottom of the plate if you want more sauce. BÒ LÚC LAC "Shaking Beef" - the rice was really good, and I know it's not the highlight of the dish, but it was yummy and the steak pieces go well with it - I'd get this again. Pho French Dip - we got the $7 mini pho addition, and to be honest, I don't think the mini pho was worth it - it was a very small portion of noodles, but that's why they call it mini, right? My party enjoyed this a lot since they are French Dip sandwich lovers. Warm Corn Bread Pudding - it was someone's birthday, so we had to try a dessert, and went with this one per the server's request. It was BANGIN! Omg, they bake the corn bread pudding right when you order, and then topped with furikake infused ice cream, miniature popcorn, and drizzled caramel. It's pretty sweet, but it was so friggin yum, and I would def order this again. The 3 of us were stuffed, and very satisfied with this meal. Ambiance was great, not super loud or quiet, so it was pleasant and fun. Service was amazing - our server and other servers checked on us constantly, making our lunch experience really amazing.

Food was ok, but service left SO MUCH to be desired. I've never encountered such terrible service. One of the dishes we ordered was Cha Ca Hanoi, which comes out on a sizzling plate. The first food runner placed it down and walked away. As soon as we started mixing the plate (no more than sixty seconds after he placed it down), we noticed that the bottom of the food was CHARRED. Literally inedibly burnt. We called a second food runner over to inform her. Our conversation went a little like this. She had the RUDEST and most condescending tone. Us: this fish is burnt...is it supposed to be like this? Her: well, it's on a hot plate and you're supposed to mix it as soon as you get it. Us: no one told us that Her: that's what you're supposed to do. do you want us to remake it? Us: yes, that would be appreciated Her: next time when it comes out, make sure you mix it. Us: ok we will. Then the remade dish comes out Her: make sure you mix it or else it'll burn again like earlier. ACTUALLY, I'll just do it for you. There. I mixed it for you. Us: ........thanks? I appreciated her mixing it for us, but it was awfully rude of her to speak to us in that tone AND on top of that, mix our food without asking us. My advice to her - if you're having a bad day, maybe not taking it out on your patrons?????? idk, just a thought. Or maybe don't work in customer service. If this is a common occurrence for the fish to burn, you should inform your patrons as you bring it out, rather than expecting them to know. Our entire table was astonished with the level of service we received. Absolutely not returning. If it wasn't for that level of service, this would have certainly been five stars.

Two co-workers and I went to the Pig and the Lady for lunch. We sat at the counter as this place continues to be one of the hot tickets in downtown Honolulu and was packed with patrons. My compatriots ordered the Viet Cajun Po’ Boy and the Grilled Lemongrass Pork Belly Banh Mi while I opted for the Hainan Chicken; P&L’s take on the beloved dish of Singapore. The banh mi orders came relatively quickly in spite of the throng of diners. They were larger than I recall and were served with a couple of homemade shrimp chips. Unfortunately, I waited a long time for my chicken dish; my co-workers were almost done with their sandwiches before I got to try my dish. Not a traditional Hainanese chicken rice plate … There was a generous serving of sliced chicken breast and a wing and drumette, a cucumber and cabbage salad, a formed mound of aromatic pandan rice, a bowl of chicken broth and two containers of ginger / scallion and soybean / chili sauces. I first tried the chicken; it was tender and moist. Now, the true test … the rice. Unfortunately, the rice was too subtly flavored for me; I ended up pouring some of the soup over the rice to intensify its flavor. That, and some of the ginger/scallion and soybean/chili gave the dish the kick it needed for me. Did I like it? Yes. Would I order it again? Perhaps. I have to get to Singapore to try the “real thing” then return for a second tasting. I will say that the portions seem larger than in the past … This was the first time I was completely full after having lunch at P&L. The food is excellent and the prices seem reasonable in this today’s environment. Recommended!
