Update May 2018: so this note is late, but they accept Samsung pay/tap to pay & all credit card charges are good for over $5. Farmers who let you use your phone to pay? Freaking awesome!!
Still great customer service here.
And NO styrofoam containers that I saw. I just was there today. See pic of cardboard egg container taken today (and other pics from other folks, in the gallery). Same as they have given us for years. Maybe they used styrofoam a long time ago?? Update November 2017: Thanksgiving specials! Two trays of large grade a white eggs for just $9, tax included. That's 60 eggs, people! From local, Waianae chickens. Fresh fresh fresh. WHAT. A. DEAL!!!! Very convenient hours. Open on Saturdays til 2pm.
Plentiful and free parking.
Handicap stalls right in front of the store.
A few snacks inside, a stand-up cooler of drinks. But the main show are the eggs!
Accepts credit cards, $5 minimum.
And if you have a question (if they're out of a certain size of eggs or the chex eggs, etc.), they actually pick up their telephone, and are super nice about it! Sweet customer service.
Terrific deals on eggs. Just bought 60 brown eggs, large, grade A, for 12 bucks, tax included.
Best part is that you're buying local and keeping it on the island. Eggs are fresher, prices are lower, and you're helping your friendly neighborhood farmer....
Read moreThe recent bird flu and egg shortage in the US has turned me into an egg snob! How can that be?
Up until recently, I was a Costco egg shopper, buying their affordable, mainland-produced 18-pack and 5 dozen options. Thin shells and pale yellow yolks that got the job done. Once in a while I’d find steaks of blood in them, even a soft embryo that looked like a beak. Yikes.
When the egg shortage hit, I was forced to pick up whatever was available at Safeway. Enter my first experience with Ka Lei Eggs, including a painful price of $8 for just a dozen white eggs. The plastic packaging is very durable but wasteful, with a fancy, double lid closure and the only downfall of the product. The shells are noticeably thicker, but the yolks are what makes it worth the price. Not only are they deep yellow in color, they really do taste better overall. “Too good!” as their old commercial slogan would say.
A few weeks later, the spouse picked up a dozen of their organic brown eggs from Whole Foods, with an even steeper price of $11 for a dozen. The yolks were of the same deep color and tasted similar to their white counterparts, so I’ll be sticking to the former.
OVERALL: No more mainland...
Read moreThis place has egg-cellent service. We try to buy local whenever we can and we love local eggs, especially Ka Lei.
It's easy to find parking in front of the business. We've always been in and out when we've come to buy eggs. They are open on the weekdays and Saturdays, which is super helpful since we work during the week.
When you walk in, there's a price list based on size, color and how many you want. They do have egg specials when you buy more. We normally get white Extra- Large eggs ($13 for a tray) but they had a special when we went, 2 trays of Extra Large white eggs for $12. That's 60 eggs!
I was egg-cited since that was an egg-tremely good deal and way cheaper here than at the supermarket. However, that's a lot of eggs! Luckily, their eggs are super fresh.
We better start thinking of all the different ways to prepare eggs since we will be eating eggs for an egg-traordinary amount of days!
Come here to by cheap incredible, edible trays...
