Ive been coming here since 2007. I can safely say that the service here has been trust-worthy and friendly and has been getting better and better every year. Tyler, the main guy behind the showcases, knows how to run his tournaments and makes sure that the entire tournament is never chaotic.
The enviornment is pretty casual. Again, order is kept by Tyler. The crowds who play any card game will use vulgar language because its part of their group of friends. Kids ages 5-12 come here more often than one would think, even on not-so-busy days such as a Wednesday. When one were to spout a certain wors, Tyler would remind the players to watch their language. This isnt him being "rude", this is him enforcing order in his store. People will think his raising his voice for not only the example provided, but him shouting "Players you have turns", "Guys, please dont trade in the middle of the aisle/main walkway", etctec. Some reviewers thought he was coming off as "rude". Well, it isn't. If theres one thing I will peg on the store is actually the customers themselves who repeatedly go against the rules and raise their voices/forget the rules. A lot. This is NOT to say the comminities as a whole in the store are bad. In fact, the majority of all card game communities in Heroes are neutral to positive.
Finally, pricing. I'll admit I only play M:tG so I've no knowledge of other games. Regardless, the prices I pay have always been fair. Singles are always priced at expected medians, tournament fee is actually a couple dollars cheaper, even in Standard/Modern drafts you get a booster. Gaming supplies have always been affordable and plentiful. Even the singles department has seen a gradual improvement over the years.
To conclude: this store has grown to be a fantastic experience for me, and I will gladly take my business...
Read moreMost definitely not a store for YGO players as their selection is small compared to the other card store just down the road. Prices aren't that great either as their mark-up is way higher than nearly every card store I have been to in Houston whether you're looking for cards or card supplies. The kid who works there has a cold, robotic tone and is basically just programmed to be demeaning, arrogant, and self righteous. He is unkempt and looks and dresses like he just woke up. Behind the counter looks like a warzone and I'm not surprised based off of his appearance. Overall atmosphere is unwelcoming. There is no reason to go here when there is another store that is quite literally a two minute drive down the street. The brothers there are the polar opposite; they know how to have a fun time and are accommodating. The combination of ridiculously high mark-ups along with a condescending, belittling shop keeper is the reason why card stores have been on the decline.
Update 4/23: As a courtesy to the ridiculous accusation by Heroes, I have removed the other store name. In no way am I affiliated with them. Judging by the response I received it's quite obvious that Heroes accepts a condescending shop keeper. Based off of past reviews I am not the only one who has experienced this. A business is entitled to defend its employees just as a customer is entitled to share their experience. I have given this place several attempts as I go to the neighboring Japanese market for lunch and every time I have interacted with Tyler it has been the same: condescending, dismissive, rude, and belittling responses. My review stands. Thank you for taking my review...
Read moreWe hadn’t been here before so we called ahead of time to ask what their Pokemon singles stock looked like to which they guy said he was pricing a fresh batch and that he’d be done after a few hours. We gave ample time by shopping around and having dinner then later going out to this place. Upon arriving we were greeted, but when we asked if their sparse case was all they had (we were confused and thought there would be more) the guy pulled out a box and started stocking them which we thought should’ve already been done given how much time had passed. It was a bit awkward waiting and watching the cards being put into the display pages- some cards were sleeveless and put in multiples in one slot which is suuuper icky. The card in my video is one of those cards and we didn’t notice until later that it is scuffed horribly due to the lack of care in handling it. The store overall is a mess and VERY unorganized. Customer service could be improved for sure.
That being said, their prices are excellent and they had great variety. I was working on a nine-piece page and after a week straight of looking at other shops and not finding the last card I needed, we found it the second the guy pulled out the box of cards to stock which made my night.
I really want to update this review to 5 stars, but the store needs to make changes. Take care of your shop, your cards, and be professional/friendly, that’s all it takes. We’ll give this place another chance and I do recommend it for hunting singles, but I’d also suggest to thoroughly check the cards in the...
