Old School Barber Shop — Local services in Houston

I walked in and loved the interior of the shop. The place was manned by two people, with no customers that moment. One was busy grooming himself in the mirror and the other was in the rear finishing up a phone call. I sat down and awaited on who will be the one to do the deed. The person on the phone was finished with his call and motioned me to come on up.

He introduced himself as Marco and we started on what I wanted. I don't usually care for what my hair looks like; hell, I was bald and just let it grow out until today. He asked me what I wanted and I gave him a general direction to what level of trim. He did the usual stuff, electric clippers, then scissor cut. Marco went above and beyond what a typical "barber" these days do. Their signage says Old School, and their service shows it.

Marco didn't just cut my hair and send me on my way. No, he took the time to detail my hairline when others just zoom by with the electric clippers. Marco even trimmed my eyebrows...MY EYEBROWS. He explained what hair product was put into my hair and why. He even finished with a hot friggin towel on my face. Can you say you get this level of service from Stupor Cuts, Fantastical Sams or Sporting Clips? (names changed so the chains won't kill me)

Ok, They were unprofessional for the first time and I left a review, so they apologized and I changed the review to a good one. I came back today to try them again to see if there is any change in their working style. I was wrong, they’re unprofessional again. Extremely poor customer service. As soon as I came in, he asked if I have an appointment. I just confirmed it the day before. The barber doesn’t even understand what I’m talking and can’t communicate properly. I asked if I can request for any corrections after the haircut but he says I have to tell him only once as he has other appointments. I’m surprised how these fellows have five star reviews. Marco is amazing!! He really took his time and he even came in because when we arrived there was only one stylist. He was here in five minutes and seriously gave me the best haircut I’ve ever had. I wanted a military high and tight - bald fade. The store is clean and Marco even built some of the furniture himself. They even have a hand built checkers game thing that’s pretty cool. 80’s Music is on and everything from the chairs to the service is very relaxing and professional.
