Sommermeyer is no longer open on Tuesdays as of the beginning of May 2025.
I went last week on a Tuesday because their website and Google maps said they were open, and I've been on Tuesday afternoons before. The gates were closed, and multiple other cars showed up behind me looking to drop off recycling.
I called the 311 Houston number and they said as of May they changed their hours. They really need to update their website and Google maps so that people know. While I was waiting for the operator to answer, at least 5 other cars showed up behind me, all confused and looking to drop off items.
Otherwise, this place is mostly good. I've seen them turn people away randomly based on their zip code, or close early before the end of operating hours. Also, their paper bin sometimes is out of order so you can't drop off paper & cardboard, that's happened to me twice. They accept glass, paper, aluminum, plastic, and some...
Read moreThey make it absolutely impossible to dump here. I came yesterday and the man said the U-Haul we were driving was one foot too high even though there was nothing we were driving under or had to clear. We literally drove right past the trash containers to exit. He told us we’d have to get a different U-Haul to be able to dump. So I came back today in my father’s truck and he still wouldn’t allow us to dump because my ID and utility bill shows that I live in an apartment. So my father tried his ID and a utility bill, but because it says Cypress, he wouldn’t allow him to dump either. We’re trying to do the right thing and properly dispose of the sofa we have. Now I understand why people dump all over the city because these services that are funded with tax-payer dollars are impossible to use. The gatekeeper at this particular facility was beyond...
Read moreIt used to be good. But not anymore. These guys love to rule this dumpsite, to make their own rules, to decide who can dump, what you can dump. Rules totally depend on their mood. I tried to dump my yard waste last week, they told me my Cypress address (still in Harris) no good. So my father had to come over and show his Houston address ID. This week they told my father, his Houston address "out of city limit" and asked us to leave. I asked them "what defines a city limit, which Zipcodes"? The guy tried to think, but got nothing from his head, then asked me to call 311. I kept asking the definition of the city limit, he just repeated like a machine to let me call 311. I pay Harris County tax too. Now I know how the money goes. Anyway, thanks to these dumpster kings and masters. Welcome to Houston Texas. Enjoy your new...
