Wow super disappointing. They advertised to me and I'm sure others via both text and email that they were having a free tasting of their brines from 1-31 to 2-2.
We showed up just a few minutes after they opened @10 AM on 2-1 only to find they only had one brine out for sampling. They showed at least 6 brines in the text message they sent me. The counter person made excuses about the kitchen but offered no apology or discount or anything else that would help compensate for their not keeping their word. We hung around and picked out several products for about 10 minutes and still no more samples were forth coming. When we checked out the counter gal made it sound like there were not going to be any more samples this day. We actually live across town so it was a bit of a drive for us. We had also told family about it and all I can say is I hope they don't go because that will make us look bad.
Customer service 101 (basic) never over promise. Under promise and over deliver. If your ad shows 6 brines you should have 8 ready the minute you open the doors. If you over promise like this business did today your customers walk away disappointed. If you under promise and over deliver your customers walk away thinking your business is the bomb and management are miracle works. We walked away today very disappointed and in part felt sorry the counter gal who was ill prepared to deal with a disappointed customer but also wondered why she was in the business in the first because she handled our complaint so poorly.
I like their pickles and the brines I have tried so for. I don't care for the olives or their Kimchi so much. I think they are way over priced on everything but especially there gifts. The shop is still cute.
This is strike two for this business for me. One more and they will lose my business for good. The first strike was also a customer service blunder where they used high pressure tactics to get me to use a 20% discount they gave me for giving them my email address. Right after I got the online discount I went to the store and spent over $100.00 so I didn't need or want anything online right away. I received a message everyday, not encouraging me to use the discount but threatening me with the discount is going to expire soon. And sure enough it disappeared in very short order. I did an online order eventually and found it even more expensive than in person and it took several days to receive my order.
They have unique products but they are priced really high especially the gifts. The pickles are good. The brines good for you but to me they all taste pretty much the same. The olives just don't have as much flavor as I'm use to in an olive. The Kimchi doesn't really taste like Kimchi. So I'm super bummed I don't like theirs more. Or maybe I'm not because poor customer service just may cost them all my business. Strike two for me. Strike 3 I won't be back.
Added 2-22-25- As seen below the owner did respond and Ryan did call me and I was given a gift certificate. It took me several days to visit the store and use the certificate. My husband and I bought an additional $40.00 above the certificate amount.
So normally I would increase my star rating more than I have here from 1 to 2 stars. I would have gone at least 3 maybe 4 but in this case it was super odd. We went to check out and asked about the certificate at the counter. The gal who responded with enthusiasm saying she was happy to finally see us and she was going to go tell the owner we were there. She returned in short order but she returned very quiet and frowning and acted like she couldn't get rid of us fast enough. So she went from having been very helpful as we decided what to get and happy we were the customer there to retrieve the certificate and smiling...to frowning, quiet and wanting to get rid of us. And the owner did not come out to great us. It was super weird. I made a note of the prices too especially on their gifts by the check out counter and noted they were still...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt was a little of a drive for us but well worth it. Hey, when your name is "Dills" you got to go, right?! Plenty of side parking when we went and come as you are. It was busy before Christmas, but still it was nice to see the locals and guests supporting the business. There are so many things from olives, pickles, shirts, coin purses, cheese, novice and specialty unique products, cards, hats, sweatshirts, ornaments, and still things to choose from. There are food items like Kosher, Kimchee, Garlic pickles and Bread and Butter pickles. I walked out with some socks, a T-shirt, a pot holder, a souvenir coffee cup and plastic glass. The cheese curds and Kosher pickles are delish and worked out so well for our holiday charcuterie board. Bring your family visiting or make it an afternoon date trip for some cute items and good treats. I am so...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI live on the Westside and gladly make the trek here when I'm craving that olivey/pickly goodness. There's a great selection of, well, olives and pickles to choose from, as well as other pickled goods, sauces, seasonings, and snacks! It's the perfect place to find a gift for people who love savory snacks, charcuterie, or just trying new stuff! They've got cute accessories (hair clips, earrings, pins, stickers, hats), shirts, greeting cards, art prints, dog and baby toys, knickknacks - anything you can think of to show your love for pickles, they probably have it. The only thing is that you get what you pay for: high-quality stuff. So it's not cheap, but I'd say it's totally worth it. It's absolutely a fun store and if you just happen to get addicted to those garlic-stuffed olives, well,...
