If you are a gamer or a geek of any kind, you will love Video Game Rescue. It's a walk down memory lane for anyone who has played video games over the last 30 years or so. From Xbox One to Atari 2600, this place keeps stock of almost any video game that you can think of and if they don't have it, Dustin would definitely love helping you track something down.
They carry all kinds of consoles and even some of those newer dual or 3-in-1 consoles that have Nintendo, Super Nintendo and Sega. The last time I was in I saw the Donkey Kong Country Super Nintendo bundle! The same one that I had as a kid! There's also action figures (video game characters, TMNT, and even Nick shows like Aaah! Real Monsters) and memorabilia of all kinds, as well as DVDs and Blu-Rays from general movies to anime. There's even a stock of VHS tapes, if you're a collector.
I've been a few times and each time that I go, I'm in here for at least an hour or so just browsing. It's hard not to take the entire store home with me. They do their best to stay affordable to customers, but still make a profit. I've found a few used games here, in perfect condition, that were cheaper than taking a trip to Gamestop. I bet it is the same for most of the wares too.
The store's trade in mechanism is cool. They'll take just about anything - games, VHS tapes, consoles, toys, strategy guides, DVDs/Blu-Rays, decor and housewares that are geek/gaming related, etc. On my first trip over here, a guy was trading in a ton of VHS tapes with the likes of Dune, Labyrinth, E.T., Indiana Jones. I asked how the system worked and, like all other businesses, they have to make a profit. So they take what would be considered pop culture and try to give a fair trade-in value for the customer.
Video Game Rescue has started hosting events, just like the rest of geek/gamer type stores around. However, they have a leg up on most of the stores in the area because they hold video game tournaments. The last place like that in the Cedar Hills area was Languild and that place closed down 10 years ago. There are Gamer Girl nights, Munchkin Demos, Settlers of Catan tournaments, pretty much anything you can think of or have an idea to do.
If you're interested in all things geek, the store has its own weekly podcast also called Video Game Rescue. Dustin really knows his stuff, so if you're looking for that one game or just want to go browse, make sure to stop in and...
Read moreThis place was a great find! I've been going through some of my game collection that needed some pairing down...I felt that I got a fair trade-in value for my common N64 games I brought in. My store credit was used to pick up a Gameboy Advance SP, which unfortunately had an issue with charging. Stephen, the person who assisted me with this issue, tried multiple different avenues (cleaning the connection, changing the charger, changing the battery). We couldn't find a way to fix the used SP, but he offered to put the original credit towards another, higher model used SP and took 25% off the difference for my trouble! My issue is fixed and I have a newer model SP that only cost me $15 out of pocket.
Everyone that I've met behind the counter has addressed my issues (trade-ins, returns, sales) quickly and with an obvious passion. The actual store itself has a great selection of all kinds of games, and is VERY clean to boot. You can also tell that the owners care about not only the business, but the gaming community. To that point - they have a whole other section of the business to hold gaming tournaments and an arcade in the last 3rd of the store with plenty of classics (NFL Blitz, Turtles in Time, multiple Pinball machines, ect.).
At no point did I receive any emotion other than enthusiasm and helpfulness during my SP saga above...if only other game stores handled these issues like Video Game Rescue. This is a mom-and-pop store to support, and they have earned my business through their excellent, quick customer service and fair...
Read more7/24/2017 I've followed vgr on Facebook for quite some time now because i heard they've got a lot of the arcade games my mom likes and my dads always been into retro games as well, I also heard they have amazing prices and a lot of cool collectible stuff, all these things are true of course (I still wish they had some league of legends stuff but maybe they'll get some in the future) I had been bugging my mom to go for months since she loves pac-man and we pass the store a lot since my fiancee lives down the street from the store. So today we finally went because I wanted to see if they had some 3ds games and another game cube controller. I ended up getting the controller and a game cube game, both for really great prices. My mom was also really happy to see the arcade games and if it wasn't for the fact that it was about to rain really bad we would have stayed to play them.
1/26/20 Three years later and i still love VGR. They added gift cards sometime lst year and i actually won 3 five dollar ones in a cosplay contest. I took them up there recently and used it towards an amibo and the happy home animal crossing game. They were having a sale on hand held games that day as well which was great.
I love that they are always adding new arcade games. They just got in a skee ball machine and they are always switching out new games so you'll never get bored.
They also do game tournements, board games and pokemon go raids weekly if thats something youre into. This is a great place to buy games, play games and make...
